Walker: Hickey received offers to trade down at 19 but wanted to stay to pick James

And if Miami trades down, maybe Ariz stays put and picks James. Then what? As I said in another thread, I'd rather they stay at 19 and get their 25th ranked player than move to 27 and get their 35th ranked player.

This highlights what I think. At the 19th pick, you don't take the 25th best player, but the 19th or a higher one that has fallen. Same for 27; you don't take the 35th ranked just because you "need" and o-lineman, you take the 27th ranked.

Hoops all your followers are turning on you!! Quick remind them that "Tannehill is a young Tom Brady" coupled with some excuses for him folding like a chair when it mattered most and draw them back in!!!

i don't need followers...i just call em like i see em...

Anyone else wanting Haha? Or Dennard... We need back end help on D. Our secondary sucks (minus Grimes)

James could be had on our second round for sure

This is a little hard to believe: Sounds like damage control.

Its hard to believe? Everybody with an ounce of common sense should realize we had the same offer on the table as the Cards. Our clock ran all the way down which also suggests we were talking. Hickey was clearly looking to trade down.

Remember when everyone was praising him in free agency...let it work itself out. We don't know how good James will be.

All I can say is really a right tackle? Did he play left tackle in college even? You don't draft a right tackle in first round. At least get a left tackle or is that not make sense. Right tackles are nothing more than athletic guards. Dime a dozen not a playmaker. Our offense is boring. Sorry but my enthusiasm for this team is at an all time low after 40 years. Clueless for 30 yrs and counting it seems. Seems like a replay of Parcell's 2.0. I hope he is not a second coming of the other Tennessee lineman from last who has sucked and not seen the field.

Hey bud you put the time in just like CK does and Slim and yes I do compare your opinions to many of the draft niks and have doing it for awhile. While you and the others to miss your on much more than the rose colored glasses fans. Soo many of the fin faithful just keep overlooking the fact that just a couple of months ago we were rejected by about every prospective GM canidate in the leaugue and ended up with Hickey who was in the process of getting fired from Tampa Bay and needed a job to pay his bills. There is a reason we are screwed up everyone else in the NFL sees it except for a lot of the fans.

This is completely untrue. It might have been true once, but doesn't hold any water anymore.

The split of top DE snaps on the strong and weak sides is evening out to the point it's almost 50:50. Pressure and sack numbers are tending towards 50:50 now also. The idea that you can get away with parking your future left tackle or a scrub you picked off the street at RT is dead. Arguably, RTs have more on their plates than LTs these days because the majority of run plays are designed to the strong side.

You're right in the sense that the draft and FA haven't fully caught up with that, so LTs are still more highly valued in the draft and earn higher deals. But the gap is narrowing. It hasn't narrowed enough to be able to say Jame wasn't a reach, that's for sure. But James in the 2nd or early 3rd would have arguably been good value.

He's far more likely to do well for not having played LT in college. Though a lot of people, myself included, think he could be a future LT, when he's done anchoring our right side.

I'm not very impressed with the reach aspectof the pick, but you don't find plug-and-play starting RTs in the 6th round often. You find guys that ULTIMATELY end up starting at RT in the 6th, but it might take 2 or 3 years of development to get there, time we didn't have for an increasingly important position with no depth on the roster.

Hickey admitted he had offers to trade back but didn't pull the trigger as they were locked in on James. That is a rookie GM mistake and unless he changes that quickly he wont be a GM long. You have to get maximum value for your picks and you have to have multiple options. If you lock into players you reach and you end up void of talent...We as Dolpfans know a thing or two about that.

They could have traded back anywhere in round one and IMO picked James but even if they didn't they could have taken Bitonio or XSF and while maybe both a reach at least you added picks in a DEEP draft. I don't hate the James pick, I think Hickey failed to maximize the value of the pick so he failed IMO with his first pick as a GM.

Hickey is not a rookie that is a issue!

Which prospective gm's were offered the job?

It's an average pick, that's all. I think the player will be solid/decent. He certainly can't be worse than what we had at RT last year.

However, there were ways to get the most out of the position we were in, but we stuck with average. It's the same thing we have seen from this organization for 15 years.

Dare to be great? Not the Dolphins.

Dion Jordan. Mike Wallace. Two dares last season. How'd they work out?

Oh we are going there now...seriously u don't want to do this...

I can tell ya it would be one with no mike egnew no Dallas Thomas and no will Davis in it

You don't have anywhere near the credibility you are pretending to have. How do we know that your picks wouldn't have been worse?
