WalterFootball.com -- Day 1 winners & losers -- Yup, Dolphins are losers

Really dude? Your bringing up guys drafted by different GM's under different coaches and crying about this pick? I don't see anyone saying James is not capable of being a legit RT. I remember Eddie Moore being a workout warrior with lame game tape. I remember seeing Pat White and thinking...he's gonna get killed if he tries to be WV Pat White....and Jason Allen was a tweener CB in college that didn't have the instincts to play safety. We didn't draft a workout warrior, we didn't draft a trainer room special, and we didn't draft a guy with the intent of asking him to change positions.

Some people need to complain that their diamonds just aren't quite the right shape. If James flops, then it was horrible pick. But based on his position/health/talent....it wasn't a 'stupid' pick

I bet you were saying the same things about Jason Allen, Pat White, and Eddie Moore. Yup, dumb fans defending dumb picks.

Walter Football is correct. James is a good player and fills a dire need, but the highest I had seen him rated anywhere was the top half of the 2nd round. I'm happy we have James on our team, and it makes us better, but it was still a reach.

USA Today has Miami as a winner in the draft: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...sers-jadeveon-clowney-johnny-manziel/8885093/

I'd take their opinion over Walter Football's. Either way nobody knows how it'll work out until these guys step on the field. Just because he wasn't listed in the first round in any mock drafts (besides ironically, walter football), doesn't mean he isn't a first round talent. I'd like to think NFL teams have done more research and know a little more about prospects than people in the media and people on forums. As for saying it's a dumb pick, why is it dumb? Is it because mock drafts and people on the internet didn't list him as a first rounder? There's a reason Mike Mayock, Todd McShay and Mel Kiper aren't asked to be GM's.

Again...rated second round talent by who? I think we put too much stock into what the sports media and these "experts" say. It's good for entertainment value, getting needed information of who are the players in the draft...maybe just to fill in the time gaps until the draft gets here. But I see them as the same "experts" evaluating the stock market...its all speculation until 2-3 years down the road where we can REALLY assess and criticize if the pick was warranted enough or not.

Doesn't matter if it's different GMs & different coaches. Dumb picks are dumb picks, and most fans know it instantly. Jason Allen, Pat White, and Eddie Moore are examples of that. In these cases, the fans knew better than the GMs who had all the resources and had intel from scouts with boots on the ground.

I think our plan going in was to the take the best player available who played LB, WR or OT. Once Mosley, Shazier and Martin went off the board, along with all the big WRs, James was the next man up. I do wonder if we attempted to trade up to 10/11 to take a crack at Lewan.

James is a very good player, we couldn't even think of taking a chance not getting a RT help tannehill, and to help out the run game.

We tried that already, remember? It was a disaster, we had to get our tackle in the 1st rnd or risk another year of inconsistent offense, now we should be able to have fun the rest of the draft.

I'm so sick of hearing "we drafted a need so it's awesome!!!"

News flash, we've been drafting to fill needs for like a decade, how's it worked out for us?

How can they grade Miami a loser when that is exactly who they had Miami taking at 19?

19. Miami Dolphins: JaWuan James, OT, Tennessee
The poor Dolphins are desperate to land Zack Martin - or really, any first-round offensive line talent - but they're all off the board. Martin's long gone, and Miami would have to move up to No. 11 to obtain him. That's unlikely to happen.

The offensive line is still a strong option, however. The team has a first-round grade on JaWuan James, as the Tennessee blocker is viewed as a "plug and play" prospect who could improve Ryan Tannehill's protection.

*** OTHER 2014 NFL DRAFT POSSIBILITIES: ***

1. Zack Martin, OT/G (trade up) - Perhaps the Dolphins will be bold and will move up for the player they love.

2. Eric Ebron, TE - Tight ends tend to go later than most anticipate, so Ebron is a possibility.

Everyone on here who says this guy is not a first round talent should shut up. No one knows anything guys like Russell Wilson went in the 3rd and Richard Sherman went in the 5th if we re drafted they would be 1 st round picks.

Again, that mock was based on them knowing what Miami's grade was for JuWuan James. They predicted us to have a terrible pick, and they were on the money.

Now the real question is --- How did they know Miami's grade for JuWuan James before the draft? Does anyone find this disturbing besides me? This is another ding against Hickey. Does he have a leak on his staff? What's going on here?

I'm not making this personal, so don't take it that way.

But you lost me at 'dumb picks are dumb picks and FANS know it instantly'

I love armchair GM'ing as much as the next guy....but I don't spend 14 hours a day talking to prospects, watching game tape, watching combine and pro-day results and discussing team needs with head coaches and positional coaches who have had league experience and one-on-one interaction with prospects. Do you? To imply that fans....'know instantly' seems a foolish thing to say to me.

James may prove to be a flop. But what I've seen gives no indication we made a horrendous mistake.

Bingo, when the two LB's and Zach Martin were gone, I said to the room...."take your highest rated olineman or cornerback and be done with it"

I think our plan going in was to the take the best player available who played LB, WR or OT. Once Mosley, Shazier and Martin went off the board, along with all the big WRs, James was the next man up. I do wonder if we attempted to trade up to 10/11 to take a crack at Lewan.

Umm, Walter football mocked James to us...in the first. So, there opinion has zero credibility.

Bumped to underscore the ridiculousness of this particular thread as "ammunition"

"Oblivious Disingenuousness:" Hate Walter for mocking him to us pre-pick... and now love Walter for condemning the actual pick they mocked. You really can't make this **** up. :idk:
