Wanny comments on Ricky's return

He should make a good college coach. alot of the posters on teh board always thought that. He's a good mentor but just shy on making the big leap to great success in the NFL. He always worked for that guy. He will be able to teach these kids in college well. It may take a few years before he gets all the players he wants but i see him dooing well (no national championships) but does well

A good defensive coordinator. Bad HC. In all honestly though, I really don't care what he says about the dolphins and I wish he just would stay away forever.

LOL........stay away forever! WHEN HAS HE RETURNED SINCE LEAVING?

Someone calls him asks him for an interview, he grants it and you rip him for it! LOL, some of you people don't know when to let things go and move on.

I can't wait so see what Wanny does with Pittsburgh.

Ex-NFL head or assistant coaches (coordinators) that go to college usually do very very very well. They are a step ahead of lifetime college coaches. Just working in the NFL gives them a huge edge over regular college coaches.

Al Groh, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, June Jones, Tom Coughlin...etc

Expect him to beat up on a weak big east schedule. Gregg Robinson at Syracuse could do the same.

Get off Wannstedt's back. Really. it isn't his fault Ricky got up and walked out last year.

Does he suck as an NFL head coach, sure ok. But to put every fault with this team on his lap for the past 10 years is a pure joke. It started with Shula, continued with JJ, ended with DW. Who knows, maybe it will go on longer with Saban, but bottom line is Wannstedt isn't "pure evil" like some here make him out to be.

He had his faults, no dobut, and he paid the price when he was fired. But give the guy a break on some level. The hate towards him is sick to watch. Get over it people! move on!

Well said Mike, I couldnt agree more.

I understand most of you are pissed off at him, but regardless, he is a classy guy. A poor NFL coach, but a classy guy.

Did you read my quote correctly? I was far from ripping him. All I was saying is that, I wish I wouldnt see him around or commenting on the dolphins anymore. He is the top story on this website, that is what I see. That to me is RETURNING. Commenting on anything concerning the dolphins is RETURNING. I said I wish he wouldn't.
Who can't let things go? You commented on this thread multiple times already, you're the one that can't let go. Jumping down my throat for saying I wish I wouldn't see him in dolphin news again, and then you say I can't move on? Calm down, take a valium, and read closer next time before commenting.

Well, isn't this turning into one big Wanny Lovefest? Seems that I remember some the same people standing up for Wanny are the same ones that bashed the he!! out of Fiedler (and Wanny). Hey, Jay was a decent guy as well and he took the high road on many occasions rather than talk bad about the OC and OL....he even gave everything every Sunday he played (unfortunately on many occasions it wasn't enough). Maybe some of you should practice what you preach before telling others to give Wanny a break.

BTW, Mike, Wanny DID run Ricky off.....after he ran him into the ground. Why don't you cut Williams some slack.....you seem to have so much of it to spare.

A reporter asked him a question. He answered it.

You make it sound like he was calling up the reporters looking for an outlet to voice his opinioni! :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno:

1) Wanny didn't run Ricky off. Only in the fantasy world you live in.

2) Im not cutting Ricky slack. The man did an illegal substance, failed drug tests, walked away from his teammates, and failed to pay child support. He is in the "LOSER HALL OF FAME" in my book.

I wonder if his NFL reputation may hurt his recruiting.
As evidenced by this board on occasion, high school kids only know that he "sucks" as a pro coach. They don't see the qualities that could make him a good college coach, because frankly, they're hard to see, IF, they are even there.

Would you send your son, assuming he's a blue chip player and he was ready to go to college right now, to play for Dave Wannstedt? Or would you send him to play for Urban Meyer, Bobby Bowden, Pete Carroll or YOUR CHOICE of other coaches?

I think he may struggle in the college ranks too and that is too bad, because you're right, he'd probably be a pretty good coach in the NFL minor league.

1. Ummmm, exactly when did you start following the Phins? Clearly my "fantasy world" is more realistic than yours, my friend.

2. Is that the same comic book in which you deny that Wanny ran Ricky off?

Would you send your RB son to a college whose coach likes to play "Wad Ball"?That player may get used up before he gets to the pros.

I was just watching the 2000 playoff game against the Colts where Lamar Smith gained 209 yards in 40 carries.A perfect example of Wad ball. One can argue that Wanny used Lamar Smith up because he he didnt have much left after leaving the Dolphins.

I am not justifying Ricky's actions but Wanny actions do seem to lead to short careers.
