Don't sell Jimmy Johnson's impact short. He did a lousy job of drafting during his tenure, and the lack of talent he left behind is a big part of the Dolphins' problems. People tend to think of Johnson as a draft genius, but that's mostly based on his success in Dallas. For the most part, the guys you draft in the first four rounds are the ones that should most help your football team. Consider this, in the first four rounds of his drafts, JJ selected the following players:
Dorian Brew
Kirk Pointer
LaCurtis Jones
Yatil Green
Ronnie Ward
Brent Smith
Jerome Daniels
John Avery
Brad Jackson
Larry Shannon
JJ Johnson
Grey Ruegamer

That's a dozen guys who were total failures.

I agree. When I'm kicking Wanny, I always remember to give a couple of well desreved shots to JJ. He sucked and I aid it when he came on board. I don't care what he did in Dallas, the guy was an idiot and personality says a lot. Coming in and making bold predictions is the kind of attitude that promotes lack of discipline to your players, which became our problem in big games. Example: How did the Jets ever catch us that Monday night? We got comfortable and started patting ourselves on the back like JJ always did to himself.

And let's not forget his biggest blunder of all...bringing in Wanny.

It's strange, his personnel history has always been like that, big hits and big misses that were overlooked until he bottomline failed with the Dolphins. I looked at his Dallas drafts and there were considerable early round failures but he had so many early picks they were ignored amidst the great picks and Super Bowl titles. Likewise, with the Canes some of his premier recruits didn't pan out if you look at who was considered best coming onto campus. But sometimes his recruits rated at the bottom third of the class turned into studs, to borrow the preferred finheaven term.

It goes with out saying Jimmy didn't have the quality drafts he did when he was in Dallas, but to say he was even on the same page as Dave is just false. When he left there were alot more starters produed through the draft than when Wanny left.
