Warning: Optimism - Rishard Matthews

Remember...a cracker looks like a steak to a starving man.

That being said, it surprises me Wallace doesn't line up in the slot more. Keep the defense guessing where our receivers are going to line up.

He lined up or more motioned to the slot at least on one mesh play last night that was wide open to the middle of the field. Tannehill threw it to Matthews at the same distance who did catch the ball but had 3 defenders ready to tackle him. He never saw Wallace.

We are stuck with Wallace. My hope is he gets it going into next season. But he is just another guy who is overpaid.

I just cant help but wonder what this offense could have been with Keller.

We can also wonder what it would have been if any of the mid round TE's Ireland drafted the last two years actually played up to that draft status. (I blame Ireland more than the players)

I don't mind Wallace even though he has been a huge disappointment. I figure his stats would look different if we had a line that could hold blocks long enough for us to run more deep routes.

I could care less if they cut Miller this week. I don't think he is even as useful as a Danny Woodhead or Sproles type.

I love me some Cam Wake, but if I'm a new GM, I trade him. Starks moves on in FA. Unless you go to a 3-4, then you trade Vernon as well as Wake, and keep the 3 dlineman. Its not going to be a KC-level turnaround, it may be a full year before you can make the transition, and I think Wake is starting to fade a little, and honestly.....we owe him the opportunity on a contender. Use the saved money and draft pick to upgrade the Oline. Dump Wheeler. And I'm only about 60% on the Tannehill bandwagon these days, he needs to learn how to hit a spot on the field 40 yards downfield with a little more consistency.

Be very careful before comparing KC and Miami, KC had six(6) pro-bowlers on it's roster. The Fins have three(3), 1 no longer on the roster.

Matthews is a decent player. He is making moves but hartline and Wallace get a lot of attention. Thus why Gibson and Matthews were so wide open at times. Ryan showed great anticipation on the first td to rishard and the second was a very well designed played.

Or Gibson and Matthews are just good at getting themselves open?

Just because "X player opens things up for other players" sounds good in theory doesn't mean it's actually happening.

They pretty much are playing up to that status, since mid-round players rarely perform very well and rarely become starters. You can blame Ireland for not drafting a tight end higher.

Plenty of mid-round TE's pan out, in fact as far as I can remember most of the best TE's in the game right now were all mid-rounders. That doesn't mean that I expect a pro bowler, but competence would be fine. Egnew seems pretty useless to me in the grand scheme and Sims is a "blocker" when we sure could use more ability.

I seem to remember Randy McMichael doing just fine coming from the mid rounds.

You're likely remembering the good ones and forgetting the bad ones. :)

Here's your list of third-round tight ends from the recent past:

Dwayne Allen
Michael Egnew
Robert Housler
Ed Dickson
Tony Moeaki
Jimmy Graham
Jared Cook

Chase Coffman
Travis Beckum
Brad Cottam
Craig Stevens
Jermichael Finley
Matt Speth
Leonard Pope
Dominique Byrd
Dave Thomas
Alex Smith
Kevin Everett
Ben Hartsock
Chris Cooley
Matt Schobel
Chris Baker
Sean Brewer
Shad Meier
Jason Witten
Mike Seidman
Visanthe Shiancoe

I see 5 (bolded) of 27 there, or 18.5%.

Now, compare that with first- and second-rounders from the same time period:

Coby Fleener
Kyle Rudolph

Lance Kendricks
Jermaine Gresham
Rob Gronkowski
Brandon Pettigrew

Richard Quinn
Dustin Keller
John Carlson
Fred Davis
Martellus Bennett
Greg Olsen
Zach Miller
Vernon Davis

Marcedes Lewis
Joe Klopfenstein
Anthony Fasano
Tony Scheffler
Heath Miller
Kellen Winslow Jr.
Ben Watson

Ben Troupe
Kris Wilson
Dallas Clark
Ben Joppru
LJ Smith
Jeremy Shockey
Dan Graham
Jerramy Stevens
Doug Jolley
Todd Heap
Alge Crumpler

I see 17 (bolded) of 32 there, or 53%.

Of course we might disagree on whether someone should be bolded or not in these lists, but it's going to take a lot of disagreement to get 18% close to 53%. :)

So, can we expect Wallace to stop stinking things up or not? He gettin Marshall, Johnson and Megatron money, he needs to produce on their level and right now he doesn't even look like he should be in the same league as those guys. Wallace is doing such a great job of opening the field up for others, we are 4- 5 and can't score more than 22 points.

Wallace does drop some balls, but IMO the major problem is the offense itself, and Philbin/Sherman. Their offense relies mostly on short to mid-range passes. They weren't worried about poor o-line play because the QB is supposed to get rid of the ball quickly, so there's not much time for deep plays to develop. They didn't worry about the running game because in their offense the short pass pretty much takes the place of the run, and now they can't convert on 3rd and short or run out the clock.

Wallace (and everyone else) would look better if Ross gets rid of Philbin and Sherman, and brings in someone who can run a "normal" offense. I was against this team going to any type of West Coast Offense, and whatever version that Philbin is running is useless. This team should be getting better in his second season, but it's getting worse. Philbin and Sherman are not good for this team, and their offense is not good for this team!

anyone have a gif of matthews reaction to the TB player who got in his face? they showed the replay and it was hilarious.

do we have the cap room to cut Wallace?, that would be a great start to weeding out the crap

What I would like to know is, who watched every snap this kid took in his career, wrote down his positives and negatives then proceeded to make him the 4th highest paid receiver in the game......either they are fools or the coaches don't know how to use him.....

Im just tired of the Go-Go...lets get rid of that and that will actually make the run better and open up play action...im blaming Matthews AND Wallace on Sherman/Philbin-that s*** is pop warner and if you want to keep at least use GO-go for a pass or PA instead of running with it a llllll the time

if we have cap room to cut Wallace then the only reason not to is Ross wanting a return on his investment.

this turd will never excel for us, I would like to cut him now to get cap room later for more ****ty FA's
