Warning: Optimism - Rishard Matthews

What I would like to know is, who watched every snap this kid took in his career, wrote down his positives and negatives then proceeded to make him the 4th highest paid receiver in the game......either they are fools or the coaches don't know how to use him.....

It's funny that we haven't had a winning coach here in years, and that we always get receivers who have been incredibly successful elsewhere to underperform on our team, and yet we seem to think that the problem is the receivers and not the coaches. I've watched Booker, Boston (injuries), Marshall, and now Wallace come in here and simply be a shell of what they were elsewhere. In the end, Mile Wallace may be a one trick pony, with some obvious deficiencies that have come to light, but I don't think a single poster here can claim that he's had a chance to use that skill all that much. We tried some WR screens last week that may have worked if the offense wouldn't have tipped their hand to a smart player in Darrelle Revis what they were going to do by having an obvious blocker line up next to him.

Here's something about Matthews. Is what we saw last night not what we've seen every time he's gotten on the field for the past two years? Every fan has been calling for him to play ... I realize we don't see what goes on in practice, but Matthews finally gets on the field and immediately looks like he belongs in every way possible.

How is it that the coaches didn't find a way to get him on the field until last night? That's mind-boggling to me.

I honestly cannot recall Matthews dropping a pass since he has been with us. Im sure it has happened but it dont seem like it is often

I think he dropped one. And it was a tough catch in traffic, IIRC.

He had more yards after catch in Monday night's game than the rest of the team combined.

This is why I don't miss Bess. He had great hands and was a reliable receiver, but once he caught the ball he was usually done. I think that Gibson was an upgrade, and Matthews is looking good, too.

The real irony in this is that Rishard Matthews is looking like an excellent 7th round draft pick by Jeff Ireland who has been well developed by the coaching staff.
