Was Jon Gruden Fishing For The Dolphins HC Job?

If Gruden gets hired by anyone, he should tithe half his income to Tony Dungy; he's good at talking the talk but it's a little different when without anyone's crutches, he had to "walk the walk." Also he's the self-anointed "QB Guru" who after Saban's brainfart resulting in Brown and Frerotte, he stood pat with the already tainted Brian Griese @5 instead of pouncing on Rodgers.

Thanks but no thanks: More pomp than circumstance.. he's ideally suited for and excellent in his present job, so let him stay there.

umm think he did a pretty good job of turning a poor raiders team into and constant contender. pretty sure that was the reason the bucs traded a first round pick to get gruden. hmmmm. he did win a super bowl with tampa when tony dungy failed for years. kinda funny how the offense produced finally when gruden arrived. and explain why dungy stuck so long with that terrible qb? shawn king?

I love Gruden on TV, not so much as HC, but lets be honest, can he really be anyworse then TS?

Gruden also mentioned how he wanted to see Miami like it was in the past, with a rowdy crowd and home field advantage and exciting team.

As do I.

ummm, his last 6 seasons in TB (also known as the further away he got from Dungy's personnel and closer into those of his own choosing) he was 45-51. Living off past glory is kewl, that's why Brian Billick is a staple on ESPN and actually won a SB with his own team. But, errr, I don't want him either. hmmmm, by the by, Carl Peterson also traded a pick for Herm Edwards..so color me impressed by both of 'em but whaddya say we keep em up in Bristol?

If you think Gruden is some sort of answer than you are fooling yourself. Yes he won a Super Bowl, but let's be honest that was with the team Dungy built. His teams got worse over time, never developed a QB and was hated by his players and lost the locker room. He would not be a good fit in Miami imo. Though his hiring would bring some false optimism initially and they could sell Dolphins chucky dolls. Other than that, I would rather Cowher, the guy who took 15 years to win a Super Bowl if Sparano is let go.

I really have to disagree with you here. The team he faced was the Raiders, who by your logic got there as Gruden's team. In fact, Gruden took over a last place team and after two 8-8 seasons led them to three straight division titles. They were a tuck-rule away from going to the 2001 AFC Title game and possibly winning the Super Bowl in Gruden's last year.

You say the Bucs regressed after the Super Bowl. That might be true, but they weren't as bad as you might think. Let's throw out the Super Bowl. In the eight seasons that followed, Gruden posted a 45-51 record, but there was a 4-12 season sandwiched between two division championships. That's also considering that he had virtually no 1st and 2nd round draft picks due to the hefty price the Bucs paid for him. You can blame the Tampa Bay management, but they brought him in to win a Super Bowl, and guess what, he did. By the way, the year after Gruden left the Bucs posted the 2nd worst record in the league. Do you want to know what the Raiders have done since they went to the Super Bowl with Gruden's team?

In all, Gruden has a 95-81 record as head coach in the NFL. He has won five division titles (two in the AFC and three in the NFC.) He has won a Super Bowl, and even if it's with someone else's team, he won it against his own team.

If that's not better than Sparano, I don't know what is.

I don't know why so many people think Gruden would be an awful choice. I mean he's probably better than sparano and some want Bill  Cowher who took near the end of his career before winning a superbowl. Gruden really made the raiders contenders back in the 2000s and won a Superbowl with the Bucs. But they are deep in the playoffs with Gruden and his raiders would have been in the superbowl another time if they didnt get robbed by the patriots and the tuck rule bull****. The raiders got to the superbowl when he was with the Bucs and gone but the Bucs won and the raiders really got there from the talent that Gruden had with the Raiders and the coach who coached the raiders didnt do anything with them after that superbowl run. The Bucs were in the playoffs for a while and a good team for years following with Gruden. It wasn't until the last season or two that they dropped off. But even the top coaches don't always have their teams making the playoffs or have slumps here or so.

He won the super bowl against the raiders team he built. The bucs traded 2 1sts a 2nd and a 3rd to get him from the raiders, so how can he rebuild an old team with no good draft pics.

Is Gruden still collecting paychecks not to coach?

ignore nublar. He's a blind Sparano swallower

I like the West Coast Offense. If Miami did hire Gruden my main concern would be can he take a young QB and be able to stick with him?

Our team tired out....Are you kidding me how does the coach allow that. This coach allows the players to much freedom and it shows when every year we get outplayed. Two CB at the same time cramp out...Please give me a breaK!!! Davis is talented but his lazy #$$# needs to train harder and Smith is a Kitty could not say what I wanted... Hopefulyy Coach will fix this for week two!!.

I'm not sure about Gruden the talent evaluator but I'm positive Gruden the head coach is a huge upgrade over Sparano. He probably wouldn't be my first choice but Id be fine with him as our HC. I noticed it during the game too. At one point he said something about being excited about the offense. He made it seem like he was a Miami fan.
