Was Jordan

Sad thing is, you could argue he had more impact plays than Wheeler and Ellerbe.

I vouched for the move by Ireland . . . so I feel it's still much too early to call him a bust. Some stubborness from the coaching staff not playing him more and also some durability issues that lingered throughout the season. He was a raw player coming out but the upside remains extremely high. He's going to be a fun watch going into camp next year.
I agree. When Miami moved up to get him, I called it a homerun by Ireland. I still think that's a strong possibility. What I don't understand is why the coaching staff didn't use him more considering how poorly Wheeler played.

Investment.

We drafted him with a bum shoulder and he missed virtually all of the hitting of pre-season. We knew he was light for a 34 LB and we wanted to have him gain a lot of weight to become a DE. Of course he was a spot player. If you cannot see his rare physical gifts and flashes of dominance, then I don't know what to tell you. But both Jordan and Mingo are going to be stars in this league. I, for one, am not disappointed with Jordan at all. His future is very bright, and given how OV blossomed this year, I'm expecting Jordan to be great. Developing pass rushers like Wake, Shelby, OV and now Jordan has gone well for us. This is an are that Ireland projects well.

I didn't like the pick initially because I thought he was too small. That is the reason I think he wasn't a huge factor this year. Give him an offseason to bulk up and he should be dominant next year.

Not a miss -> He wasn't healthy and is behind for that reason -> the pick was not for this year the pick is about the future -> had Jeff feared for his job he would have selected the OT or Austin

Bust. Flashed potential but didn't play enough to make an impact. Hindsight being what it is, if we took WRs Patterson or Austin we would have won another game or two.

I got bashed for questioning that pick when it happened and I'm questioning it a lot more now. A number 3 overall pick should be a day one starter and have contributed a lot more than Jordan did. He has been a huge bust SO FAR. Hopefully he becomes a monster out there and earns his draft spot, but I doubt it.....and of course we had bigger needs

If you don't think the Phins new Jordan would be behind all year, then I don't think you know jack about shoulders, Ireland is pompous and didn't think his job was in jeapardy or he would have gone with Austin or and OT..., hind-sight is 20/20 Jeff..., But thanks for Jordan and Tanny they will be stars but you won't be around when it all blossoms

And thank you for laying off Dez

a hit or miss at three this year?

He sure was a MISS this year. He may or may not turn into a decent player. I just really have to question why Ireland felt the burning need to move up to get a DE, and not realize that he had some injury concerns. You cannot afford to move up and lose a pick and then get NOTHING for it? He would have been better off staying put and staying with our one first rounder, two second rounders and two third rounders. Ireland supporters seem to always want to give Ireland one more chance, but I say WHY BOTHER? Fire him and promote Gaine to GM.

He couldn't play the run at Oregon, i don't know why anyone would be surprised by that. He's too tall/skinny, has no leverage or strength at the point of attack. If he was drafted to do that, it was an EPIC fail. He was drafted to be a part time player, which is why i think #3 was too high for him. Is he multi-dimensional with talent? Sure. He can rush from the outside and can drop and cover immensely well for his size. But his pass rush skills are limited....or i could say lacking other than his speed rush.....and he is not a 3 down player in the traditional sense, so unless the coaches are able to get creative enough to use him more, he will never live up to the#3 pick.

Vernon was an undersized DE at Miami and was stout against the run, but even he struggles at the NFL level against the best. I can't see Jordan ever being strong enough at the point to handle DE in a 4-3 set. And please don't bring up Jason Taylor. As good of a pass rusher that he was, he was abused in the run game at times, constantly being push upfield. He just had better LBs cleaning up behind him like Zach Thomas.

I don't see how you can look at all the holes we had on draft day and not call Jordan a miss! Trading up to 3 for a guy rehabbing a shoulder injury, that you knew was a project player? That's a bad gm anyway you cut it! You don't sacrifice the present for a maybe in the future!
