Was the Brandon Marshall trade worth it?

How exactly is Marshall worth it? 100+ rec yds and no TDs in a loss is garbage. He's only worth it if Miami brought him in to drop TDs in the endzone. I don't really see that much of a difference between Marshall and Ginn...neither made the catches when it mattered most.

No.

If you look at the WRs we could of taken instead of trading the picks for Marshall.

This season we could of drafted any of several good WRs. Randall Cobb, Korrey Smith, Denarius Moore, Greg Little etc etc. The best two TEs were gone by our pick last season and we whiffed on some later in the draft.

Last season we could have drafted any of a number of WRs or TEs. WRs Mike Williams, Golden Tate, Brandon LaFell, J Shipley, J Ford etc. TEs? I think we would have missed Rob Gronkowski but there was Jimmy Graham, Aaron Hernandez, Ed Dickson, Jermaine Gresham etc.

I would make the argument that with those two draft picks we could of had a good WR and a good TE and together they would be making about half the money B Marshall makes. Other pluses would include those players working into our offense instead of working our offense around B Marshall.

we stole him. give him a team with somewhat adequate QB play, protection for the QB and a semblance of a run game, he would be dominant (yes, drops and all). we are working to get there. but yeah, we stole him.

You say it like this topic wasnt discussed ad nauseum during the offseason.

Yes he was...Think about it...Would you trade Merling and Pat White for Brandon Marshall?

That statement doesn't make sense since both players you mentioned were not available in 2010 and 2011. At least use the years and players that were available with the traded picks.

none of which are as good as brandon marshall. I'd like for you tell me why you think they are better than him, if you'd like. I'm not interested in the $$$ angle, just why on earth you think any of those guys would outperform bmarsh.

if history is an idication we wouldn't have selected a WR anyway, we would have taken the john becks and pat whites of the world. I really am not impressed with that list of players bro.

Was he worth it at the time. Yes.

Now. Kinda. When he gets accurate passes he makes them into something.

When we traded for him he was a top 5 WR. Came here and didnt play up to par. And so far this year is looking better than last year.

I think it's safe to compare bmarsh to available WR's available in round 2 of 2010 and 2011

there wasn't jack for WR's in 2010 in the second round, I believe arrellious benn may have been the only one to go.

in 2011 i believe there was titus young, torrie smith, and greg little....

none of which I believe are better than brandon marshall.

I did not say that as rookies or 2nd year players any of these are as good as Brandon Marshall is (I question how good is he). But some of them are having good seasons and a number of them have outscored Marshall.

But if you do the math, we get TWO of the above players. WR Randall Cobb and TE Jimmy Graham. WR Korrey Smith and TE Aaron Hernandez. I'd take a number of WR/TE combos over Marshall.

And that is just the WRs and TEs. If you go to NFL.com and look though the draft and history of the drafts, you can see all the players we could of drafted. We could of filled two holes instead of creating one.

You can see all the players we could of had. I find in interesting that with our picks the Broncos used them on a center and a tackle.

This is like wasting the Pat White pick (not as bad) where a lot of good players were on the board at those early picks. We could have the safety we needed, or the 3rd cornerback, or a running back like Ben Tate.

What if we had RT Vladimir Ducasse and QB Ryan Mallett?

I like Gates. Hartline and Bess. Gates was more of a missing link then Marshall is. Marshall does not have great hands, does not run good routes and he is not fast.

Plus he has problems playing with others.

I'd trade him for two 2nd rounders so quick he would not have time to tweet it.

Heres the trap though, some of you would rather have the 2nd round picks, but we wouldn't have drafted those guys and our recent history in the 2nd round is beyond terrible.

I can get behind some of that dude. My whole train of thought though is, compare it as apples to apples in a sense where I only look at what WR's we could have taken. I don't know how to compare brandon marshall to a DT, or OLB ya know???

my other tendency would be to look at our past draft history... how many good Te's have we let go by the wayside in the draft? so that being said, I don't think we would have even been targeting hernandez, hankerson, gronk, or graham... we just don't seem to like drafting TE's, gresham, bennett, etc etc... were these guys even on our board. why we don't feel the need for an upgrade at the position is beyond me.

I keep remembering marshalls 21 catch game or whatever it was when he was with denver... why can't we utilize any of our talent they are best used? so frustrating.

I think a handful of teams would. teams that are in contention that usually aren't.. bills
teams that need help at WR in the near future.. NYG

teams that feel they need another weapon... carolina

Oakland always throws cash at ppl.... theyd be the first team I'd call.

I don't think it's a stretch to say 5-6 teams may give up two first rounders for him.

marshall is still a beast. He is pretty good with Henne imagine how much better he would be if he actually had someone to throw him accurate passes.
