We can all stop worrying, Tony has corrected the problems.

Tony, you understood we were attacked by TE's last year, yet this year you have not corrected it. And you have corrected all the issues from last week? Wow!
Awesome, so no more TE's spanking us again, thanx Tony, you're grrrrrrreat!

Sparano has no clue

In 2008 TEs had 57 receptions for 599 yards
In 2009 TEs had 66 receptions for 564 yards
In 2010 TEs had 67 receptions for 799 yards
In 2011 TEs have 14 receptions for 189 yards against us

Looks like 2011 has the potential to blow away
the 2010 numbers if Tony and Co. don't wake up

I'm pretty sure NO ONE expected the TE's to do what they did. Since we were lit up last year from it, we all (I can only speak for myself) just thought it was common sense that Nolan would fix the issue..Ya know?
You're also speaking of a personnel issue with covering. I'm coming from the idea that Nolan needed to scheme for their TE attack.
And the last post of jerking around Tony for his interviews, yeah, I'm just havaing a little fun. Iknow I'm not the only one who enjoys his you know, answers in interviews. It's Friday, we should all realx.
This is 100% correct!!!! I had a similar post about this exact thing... for the past 4 years TEs have destroyed us on a consistent basis... I felt like that was going to be an obvious area of improvement for this coming season....WTF happened? Did they lose all the tape on those games? If we dont get this fixed Dustin Keller WILL kill us! We usually cover Gates pretty well... BUT Keller and Sanchez will own us we dont get this shizzz figured out ASAP!!!

Thank you! I felt like I was the only one freaking out about this after Monday night! This is a glaring issue that doesnt seem to get addressed..

Q. Was this a tough week to coach this football team
?

TS: No, it wasn’t tough. The guys handled it well. The good news is that it was a short week, not a long week. There wasn’t time to dwell. We have a bunch of pros in this locker room and they knew how to react. But like everything else in life you have to understand where the problems were and you have to know how to correct them. That’s what we did.

the problem hasnt been corrected and it cant be by this head coach. because that performance wasnt really the problem it was simply the symptom of the problem. tony sparano is not a great head coach. plain and simple! thats the problem.

i just finished watching that special on bill belicheck. the guy gets it and its obvious. but its the simple things. bill and tom understood the magnitude of this game. he knew how much it meant to the patriots season. and he knew what it means to bury a team that can potentially compete for a playoff spot for u especially on the road against a divisional opponent. the truth is regardless of what any sunshine and rainbow, popsickles and lollypop fans around here want to believe IS we got punched in the mouth and our entire season is behind the 8 ball now. thats just a fact. i know its one game. but in reality its much bigger.

and our coaching staff did not have this team ready to beat the pats on monday night when the lights were on. yes clearly the offense wanted to come out and make a statement, and they did. but sparano should have been riding his defense EXTREMELY hard coming into this game. caress the offense. tell them how good they are etc. RIDE the defense. tell them they arent as good as they think they are. it was very clear by vontaes comments what the mindset of this defense was coming into this season.

im sorry, the headcoach is to blame for this. the second he saw that tweat (actually it should have been long before that tweat) but as soon as sparano got that info - it was insight. and he CLEARLY failed to capitalize on that coaching opportunity. he misses the important ****. the second that happened he should have been in that meeting room in front of the whole team showing video of dropped interceptions, missed tackles by these 2 corners. and saying how this defense is leaving plays on the field. he needed to use this. clearly he didnt. this defense thought too highly of themselves, and the roster decisions coming in left us unprepared to win this game.

the problem is poor coaching, and quite simply that cant be corrected. only the symptoms can be disguised. the problem isnt going away.

Funny, coulda of swore many on this site thought dumping Crowder and signing Burnett was gonna help that.

Amazing how many who approved of a move now critiscize it.

No matter what Sparano says or does some of you are always gonna critiscize it, it gets ridiculous sometimes.

I bet not one person in this thread so far wrote a post or thread expecting teh Pats TE'S to do what they did. I seriously wonder if some of you were supporting the Burnett signing for this reason.

i definitely support the burnett signing. but so what? doesnt mean tight ends arent a concern. does anybody have 2 guys that can do what the pats tight ends can? hernandez runs like a receiver. one guy isnt gonna cover up the problem of facing 2 extremely talented tight ends. and if u are going to put personal on the field that leaves a small corner (and not physical) matched up on the inside of the field against these guys - u are going to get burnt. its plain and simple. we had an entire offseason to match personal and we made not one single move. thats just dumb. i dont understand why u would think as a head coach or personal guy that for some reason the road to the playoffs doesnt go through new england. its just a head scratcher. they should have built this team in the offseason to beat new england in week one. the game was handed to us on a silver platter. and we werent prepared to win. from the front office, to the coaching staff, to the players.

its not going to be pretty if the texans put up as much points as the patriots did, i would not be surprised if ross just gets so frustrated heads start rolling.

i seriously doubt this. because these guys were put in their place. the texans are probably running into a buzzsaw in this game. its a must win for miami. the defense will probably play outstanding, and the offense has some confidence that what they do will work - that they are actually good enough. plus houston is coming into this game after essentially putting an end to indy for the season. they are feeling pretty good about themselves right now and where they stand. kinda like how miamis defense was last week. u wanna place a bet on a game this year??? this is the game to bet.

dolphins win big. if they dont then kubiak did an incredible job.

its a week too late tho. this team wasnt ready to win what essentially amounted to the biggest game of the season. they just werent ready when it mattered. big win for miami - but a week too late.

The problems were:

* the defensive plan
* young players with not enough preparation
* Nolan sending play calls too slowly
* not being ready for the pace of the no huddle
* Wake having a very bad day with setting the edge. This was huge.
* Reshad Jones mental mistakes
* Conditioning but it was the least important issue

I am not even worried about covering tight ends. That will come with better management of time and being ready for the snap
.

What???

Of course the secondary play shows up like the big glaring black hole. But there are less obvious problems that showed themselves in subtler ways that I hope Tony addresses preemptively. Or we'll just end up spending next week talking about what a disaster our oline play is, or lack of running game, or lack of pass rush, etc.

The problem with NE's tight ends is they are huge, athletically gifted and fast. Right now there isn't one player in the league that can match up with what they are doing with their TE's scheme wise and consistantly stop them. If a D coordinator brings in a CB to cover them for a pass Brady runs the ball, if the D coordinator brings in a LB to stop the run Brady passes the ball. It's not so much on the D as it is in Brady's ability to audible at the line of scrimmage and change the play to create mismatches. There's a reason the Patriots have scored 30+ points/game 11 regular season games in a row and it's because nobody has figured out how to consistanly stop that scheme and until they do the Patriots will continue to rack up points and yardage like it's no big deal.

Due to the addition of Burnett we shouldn't have the problems we had in the past covering the single TE, but I guess time will only tell.

ok. but if all this is clear. and its clear to you. its clear to me. why wasnt it clear to this front office and staff coming in? ok u put a db in for the tight ends and they are going to run the ball? have u seen their running back? a db can handle the running game in this case. taking a lineman or linebacker off the field isnt a disadvantage. why didnt they find another db with size that can handle one of those tight ends inside? and support the running game if needed? the speed of a db in that case would actually be an advantage against woodhead.

against new england, therefore, your base personal should be nickel. knowing this why didnt miami coming into this season make sure that their nickel package was their strongest personal grouping so they matched up to new england??? our nickel package is the weakest personal grouping we put on the field defensively. and that is unacceptable. especially considering the new offense. they plan on playing with a lead. the plan on putting up points - that makes nickel even more important. and teams are FINALLY starting to realize u win games in the passing game and NOT by running the back 60 times a game. u simply need to be able to run the ball to keep teams honest, and in short yardage situations.

we KNEW this coming into this season. the fans knew it even. we know how good those tight ends are. and burnetts a great move. it solved half the problem (although they needed to get the communication thing in order). but the biggest part is the nickel back. and we are undermanned there.

"Hey Tony, you got smacked hard last game. What do you say about that?"
"I say, hey, you know, Fuhget-a-bout it!" "Move on, Bada-you know-bing!"
Are you making fun of us Italians? cause if you are. forget about it......bada bing!!

Ozzy rules!!

And another issue is we've been saying we need to upgrade our own TE position for years. Every good team in the league has great pass catching TEs. Some of them have 5-6 TEs on their roster. We're constantly playing catch up in the NFL and are years behind the trend.

I bet New England is switching to the 4-3 now because they realize how potent their TEs are and the 4-3 is probably the best way to stop them.

Hey, I'll be the last one making fun of Italians, I don't want to be sleeping with the fishes....Unless it's the Dolphin Cheerleaders!

Its not like he isnt trying to fix the TE coverage issue. He did bring in 2 great coverage LBs. The problem isnt that we cant cover them its that Brady had literally all day to find them. I challenge anyone on this board to name a LB that can cover Hernandez for 6-7 seconds. Not gonna happen. Also if we cant apply pressure with the front 3 and the ends then we will be forced to blitz with the ILBs and then it really gets ugly. The fact is, we got no pressure against the best QB maybe ever, they ran our D into the ground with the no huddle and there TE's might be the best in the league. Lets not freak out over this game.

Tony always has all the right answers after an a$$ kicking. Never during. Never ever during

On Mondays he's the best in the business. Tuesday to Sunday, he's the worst.
