We have a long way to go...

as Dolphins fans, we know what it's like to have a top QB involved in shootouts every week. that was us in the 80's and 90's. yes, it was more exciting, but just as disappointing.
it takes more than one player or one unit to win it all; balanced teams are the best teams.
and I don't care if it's Rodgers, Brees or Brady, a good defense makes their team beatable
okay but the difference is back then you were allowed to touch the QB. You are not allowed to any more. Back then you could maul the WR at the LOS, you cant do that any more. You were allowed to take kill shots on the WRs while they were in the air if they even got a fingertip on the ball, not any more. You are still allowed to do pretty much anything you want to a RB and no one in the front office in the NFL will give it a 2nd thought.

This team is handcuffing itself and giving elite QB based teams a MASSIVE advantage over themselves because the coach cant tell that Parcel's way hasnt worked since 1988-1989.

I would take an elite qb and a just good enough defense. I would be happy knowing that the game was over in the 3rd quarter (for the other team for a change)
you could say the same thing about a team with an elite defense

an elite defense doesn't allow 3 TDs in the 1st quarter to anyone so you don't have to have a top-5 QB to keep up.

and I'm speaking in general terms, not just the Dolphins
then why did the ravens with the best defense of all time only go to 1 and only win 1 superbowl? because despite what anyone tells you offense is still more important than defense. you have to score more points than the other team to win the game. it doesnt matter how many times you stop a team from scoring if they manage to score 1 more point than you.

All I have to say to this thread

Mrk Sanchez beat the two best qb's in the game last year in their houses

Watching the game last night, particularly seeing the command that Rodgers and Brees have over their offenses really brought home for me how far the 'phins have to go to get to that level. Both of those teams are so damned loaded with talent; it was pretty impressive.

Just an observation that I know we are all aware of.

I don't know, even though Miami is nowhere on that level on offense, I believe on defense Miami might be higher then both of them.

Those are two very good teams though, and this Monday, Miami will see a team on that level, let us see how Miami deals with the Pats before saying they are close or a long wy from that type of team.

They just lost a bunch of people to injuries the week before...Finley got injured the week before.

The packers now would kill us.

They won the Superbowl with that depleted team, that we beat...So let's not pretend we got a "break".

...

Guys! I guess we might as well not show up for games until we have Brees or Rogers under center!

I don't believe the Saints are an elite defense, but I don't believe Miami's is either. I don't think there's more than 2 or 3 defenses in the entire league that could've prevented the Packers from scoring those 3 TD's in the first quarter.... much less hold them to under 30 points very often. When Rodgers gets hot... you can hang it up...

But also turning the football over inside their own territory by the Saints didn't help matters... and that single fumble by Colston on the Saints first possession ended up being the difference in the game.

You need the caliber of quarterbacks you saw last night to come from behind when you fall down a couple of scores... it's going to happen at some point no matter how "elite" you think your defense is. Like I said, if that was Miami falling behind 21-7, that game would've ended up in the 42-13 neighborhood... not only because of the lack of quarterback, but because Miami would've packed it in like they did against the Patriots last year.

Personally, i liked the Rodgers to Jennings touchdown against Patrick Robinson. Not because it was a particularly difficult read before the snap, but because afterwards the announcers slowed the play down and you can read Rodgers lips while we looks at the matchup and he exclaims "Really?!?!", then throws the easy touchdown. Outside of Pennington, when was the last quarterback for the Dolphins able to read and exploit a play before the snap consistently?

Not sure how people can slam the Saints defense. They got to Rodgers, they broke up some plays. Its just that the Packers offense has elevated their game to a whole new level. They will be in the top 3 offenses before the year is over. Hell, they will probably make a run for "undefeated" for the first 10 or 12 weeks. As TedSlimm said, that was just a matchup between 2 Superbowl contenders. There is no shame at all for the losing team.

And again, not sure how people can take some validation for us beating the Packers one week out of 17. Green Bay showed they could win games all year long and win when the pressure was on. Miami lost 4 of their last 5. Yes, we did beat Green Bay last season, but we also showed no consistency. As well, if anyone recalls, that game could have easily turned against us, as it went into overtime and relied on a Carpenter kick to squeeze out the win. That game we were the better team. That season the Packers were the better team.
Given the choice, id rather have lost that game and won the Superbowl. Id take that decision 10 out of 10 times.

Exactly... Green Bay wasn't the team they are now when Miami played them last year. Green Bay wasn't the team they were in the playoffs last year when Miami played them...

Hell, Green Bay wasn't the team they are now when they played Atlanta during the regular season last year... Atlanta beat their ***. But they were a different team later in the season and throughout the playoffs...

If I was a betting man and Green Bay was favored by 17 right now against Miami, I'd pick 'em to cover....

people love shootouts, there's more action, more records, more dancing...

I also love a good defensive slugfest and on Sunday I will be parked in front of the Steelers/Ravens game

For those that think we are the same caliber team as Green Bay or New Orleans.. well my friends.. all I have to say is.. "YOU'RE TRIPPIN"... Did you see the focus and dedication from the O-lines last night.. Or the quickness of the ball carrier once he saw a hole open up? and you still expect to see that from our team this year?

Leaving Rodgers and Brees out of the argument, the other 52 players on their respected teams all were on the same page, they were controlled, disciplined, dedicated and each of them knew their assignment.. In short, they all came out to play and left it all on the field.. So I have to give credit to both coaching staffs as I just dont see the same cohesion here with the Dolphins..

One might argue that we had a short preseason, or that we have a new system, new coaching staff, new players... blah blah blah.. But the bottom line is our final product, our team that we'll be putting out on the field Monday night is just not as good as what we saw witnessed on Thursday night..

Others might argue... Yeah, but we beat Green Bay last year.. at their home even.. True that... and there is truth to the saying that "any team can beat any team on any weekend".. But thats only IF the better team is playing down and the worse team is playing up.. Over the long haul of the season, the better team will ALWAYS be the better team!!!

For those fellow fans that have already booked their reservations for the Super Bowl next year.. Can I have some of what your smoking? Please!!!

Can we play a game first before we start comparing ourselves to the two former Superbowl champions???

Mark Sanchez plays as good or better than those quarterbacks do when it's playoff time... that's why the Jets have made it to the AFC Championship Game 2 years in a row and beat those quarterbacks..

Hell, Sanchez outplayed Ben Roethlisberger by a HUGE margin in the AFC Championship Game last year and the Jets still lost...

Yeah, Miami has a long way to go until they can compete with, let alone beat a team like the Packers..............oh wait, they beat them last year.

Funny, you mean Miami beat the Packers who were missing Clay Matthews, Ryan Grant, JerMichael Finley, Ryan Pickett, and 2 other starters missing including a LB and DE.Not to mention Woodson wasn't shadowing Marshall like he would of if he didn't have a bad toe. Don't try to act like Miami beat the same team that just worked the Saints last night. Nice try though.

Do people really forget this?

again, I'm not just talking about the Dolphins. some say they're elite, some don't

I'm saying that was a record breaking performance last night and no QB can do that every week.
plus, you don't see the Ravens and Steelers giving up 35+ very often

What's your point besides no point at all? Oakland beat San Diego twice and won out all their division games, does that mean they're contenders? Green Bay is a different monster than the game we had against them not to mention they were missing several key players against us. So if you feel like one fluke win makes us even with them then  @ you.

Green Bay would have destroyed us if they were healthy and every bad team has a lucky day.

Yes, we did, but we definitely wouldnt of beat them had they not had like 7 guys on IR. We barely squeeked out a win.
