We may be cutting moore to save for 2015

I disagree but understand your concerns, Moore will never be anything backup, and need to move on. And when your backup QB is your leader you kind of have to question the team structure and the type of people that drafted IMO.

....when your backup QB is your leader you kind of have to question the team structure and the type of people that drafted IMO.

As of right now, this team has no obvious leader. Last season's mess should have made that perfectly clear to everyone.

How does Matt Moore stop Tanne's progress? It is known he helps Tannehill's progression especially since Tannehill doesn't have the QB experience as other QBs his age. We are lucky to have Moore behind Tannehill.
RT is our starter there is no debating that at all. Moore will never be more then an average QB in this league. Moore truthfully does not affect RT in any way.
He is more of a progress stopper of Devlin. Devlin is now in his own right a vet in this league. We need to know if he can truly be our quality Vet backup or if we should be looking for another QB to develop into that role.

Again, Moore serves no purpose in this team anymore. RT is our undebatable starter and Devlin should be our backup or we wasted our time developing him and need to move on.

The loyalist in me hopes we keep Moore. The realist in me thinks Moore signed his last deal with us last year. I think the staff is waiting for Devlin to prove he is ready for #2 duties and Moore will either be a late cut this year or not re-signed next year.

Financially, with Devlin being a RFA in 2015, Moore's contract expiring after this year and Tannehill's first "big" contract looming, the allocation of money to the QB position and development plan for the position clearly indicates Devlin is the backup of the future, Moore is out of the picture and we draft another QB for #3.

If Devlin fails to overtake Moore during camp or at least prove equal in offensive execution, Moore may be extended to a more palatable deal and Devlin could be in serious jeopardy next year.

Either way, I don't see us spending much more than $2 - $4M year on QB2 and QB3 once Tannehill is re-upped. And it's apparent to me Devlin's grooming makes him the ideal "cheap backup" who is very proficient with the offense and can win us some games.

:bobdole:

Barring some major move, after Rookie picks and a few more low end veterans we will roll over around $10-12 to next years cap.

Next years cap will also increase league wide to $140ish.

We will enter next year's FA period with around $20-25 in cap.

Pouncey, Clay, Odrick are the only "must sign" FA players we will have.

Pouncey team option is for $5 if not mistaken. Clay and Odrick won't break the bank.

Enter "TRUE" FA period with say $20 again. No major gaps present in the roster, just looking for pure upgrades at that point.

Sadly, the one player I could see getting the boot is Fields. Guy is a beast but $4.2 for the Punter? I don't know.

Moore is terrible, as we found out last year, you can't even count on him to come off the bench and play decent. I doubt anyone would trade for him, but I guess you could hang on to him in camp and see if another team has injuries and gets desperate.

Replacing the backup qb would kill the fan base and signal a complete rebuild? People are showing up at the stadium to see Moore stand on the sidelines? WTF???

RI is gone. Get over it already.

Part one, I completely agree with.

Part two? Who in the hell mentioned Incognito in this thread? :chuckle: Damn, bro - you've got one helluva large axe to grind for a player that ain't even on the team anymore.

If so they will lose the fan base. Cutting Moore with the OL in absolute shambles, is sending the message to the fan base, that we are going into a complete rebuild and won't be trying to be competitive this year. I can't imagine a worse move than to cut one of the leaders in the locker room, and a very valuable talent, after seeing the beating Ryan took last year, and seeing the OL is much worse shape now than it was last year. That would be stupid.

Cutting the backup QB means the franchise is rebuilding and will lose the fan base? Hahahahahahahaha

I'd be fine with Moore if he was still solid. I don't believe he's still solid. All I hear are excuses for him, "Oh, he's cold off the bench, etc etc"
I don't think the plan for a backup QB is to play sloppy coming off the bench. He's not clutch, make's poor decisions/throws, and seems to get flustered.

I agree we need a serviceable backup, and Moore is usually touted as one of the best, but I think that's no longer the case. Someone new in training camp would be great, and I would applaud Hickey for picking up some competition in the draft in a later round for Tannehill.

I'm for it but you would think he has some trade value. If you were in Cleveland giving the strength of their roster wouldn't you be all over getting a guy like Moore?

Money we don't spend doesn't additionally transfer over to the next year. If we want to cut him to sign someone new, that is fine, but if it is for saving cash, it doesn't make sense to cut him. He will be a free agent after this year anyway so next year we will have 5 million dollars that he won't be taking up.

Matt Moore is a contingency plan. Pat Devlin is a 3rd string QB.

Shhhhhhh .... can't bring that logic stuff up in here.

C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa (SR)…I really like him.

What do you see in him Hayden?

I'm not convinced. He's precise and a nice big target yes, but I see laboured movement and not very dynamic athlete. And not convinced at all with his blocking.

So, interested to know why you like him.

Ta.

WTF are you babbling about?

So you're saying people go to the game to watch our backup QB hold a clipboard on the sidelines?

i cant help but to laugh at those of you who are in favor of cutting Matt Moore. He is a solid backup, and knows our team. Ok fine, cut Moore and watch Tannehill go down with an injury and then we start.......umm.........Pat Devlin. Or, bring in a veteran backup. Like?
