We never saw Marino's BEST years!

Dan's #s could be worse with a running game because of the # of throws.

No they wouldn't. Manning relies on play action A LOT. The Dolphins couldn't sell play action, because they had no threat of a running game.
Manning possesses neither the arm strength nor the release of Marino.

Running threat or not, in today's NFL the rules help passers more than they did in 84. The 5 yard rule? On top of that, Peyton played 11 games on turf last year ( I believe Marino played 2 in 84). Players play alot quicker on turf than they do on grass, mainly WR's. Add on that Edge is one of the best recieving backs in the league. I think Marino would have far exceeded (sp?) those of Mannings if he was in Mannings position.

2004 Colts - 527 passing attempts, 427 rushes

The Colts ran fewer plays than the Fins.

what I would like to see is Dan's nos compared to Peyton's nos in the same amount of time they are in the league from both their rookie years. No of pass attempts and run attempts. It's easier to grab 1 year and compare it to another year at RANDOM.

Miami really needed Arnsbarger to stay instead of going to LSU.

If he never left, Dan and the Dolphins would have cleaned up the NFL in the 80s and 90s. Dan would have two hands full of rings.

Totally agree with that assessment. Arnsparger was an animal. He was ahead of his time. His departure was ultimately devistating. Shula and company chose so many Defensive busts and we were left with Chuck Klingbeil - somebody please wake me up I'm having a nightmare!

Arnsparger + Marino + Duper + Clayton + Tony Nathan + Shula would have meant two handfuls of rings! And the NFL would have evolved differently then it had. Those ridiculously pathetic Bills teams would not have disgraced the AFC with 4 superbowl losses - their players could not even find their helmuts before the superbowl games! And we could have been spared those pathetic Bronco's teams and those hapless patriots and Chargers. But man those bills teams of that era really sunk the AFC to new lows!

Look at Peyton Manning:

Peyton's least productive season was 2001, where he went for 26 TDs and 23 INTs. Coincidentally (or not), that was also the year Edgerrin James tore his ACL and wasn't able to play.

His next least productive season? 2002, the year after Edge came back from his injury and was less productive. Edge had career lows (discounting the season he missed to injury) in attempts and ypc, Peyton Manning also had his least productive season (27 TDs 19 INTs) outside of the season that Edge missed that year.

Peyton's other years when Edge was healthy? 33/15, 29/10, and 49/10.

In Peyton's 7 year career, his 3 worst seasons came when Edge either wasn't playing or was not healthy. His 4 best seasons came when Edge was healthy.

Now can you imagine Marino's stats with an EDGE type RB?? :eek:

manning so far in his career has 3880 att in 7 years (112 starts). MArino in his first 7 had 3650 in his first seven (101 starts). They are very comparable. Now if we check the run att. I'm almost sure that the colts ran more rush att if we compare both.

I'm not trying to say who would be better just trying to make a point that the no huddle saves Peyton time to run more plays and still have almost the same amount of pass attempts inspite of having to share snaps with his running game.

Well 84 isnt exactly a RANDOM year. Marino and Payton had similar #'s that season and im guessing he picked 84 b/c he knows that was the year marino threw 48 td's and he picked 2004 b/c that is the year manning threw 49, not exactly jsut throwing any ordinary year out there. The fact that indy runs a no huddle doesnt affect the number of plays they run at all. If you watch the colts play, manning takes the play **** down to 1 on almost every snap with audibles and signals.

you're not seeing my point. My point is there isn't a huge drop off in stats between their attempts. My questions was if whether his records would've been affected by a running game. It was a question and not a statement. If you read my other post, I did say (IMO) Dan would've won a sb w/ a running game.

Later in his career, a running game would have really helped. Early in his career, it didn't matter. They were one of the highest scoring teams anyway. The lack of a defense cost Marino rings, not the running game.

The only way to defense Marino early in his career was to keep him off of the field.
