We Still Need Another Big DT!

He built Miami's defense from the ground up. The only player he kept was Tim Bowens. If JJ didn't want big two gap defensive tackles, he had plenty of chances to get non big two gap defensive tackles.

Well, I'll default to my previous post. Daryl Gardener was the only DT who JJ drafted in an early round,if I remember correctly. He was a college DE who looked extremely lean at 300 plus pounds. Hardly a prototype 2-gap DT. The Tim Bowens who JJ kept wasn't the nicked and limited Timbo of today. He had plenty of upfield capabilities along with the size. When he had Gardener and Timbo that wasn't known as a run stopping duo only.

I completely agree with you Wannstedt is more conservative than JJ along with a much worse personnel analyst. My point was Wannstedt may have followed JJ's basic philosophy but he botched it by becoming too limited at DT and not nearly enough playmaking ability at OLB. JJ preferred smallish OLBs but they were instinctive guys like Darrin Smith.

Well there's not much to choose from right now. There should be a few DT's being released sometime soon.

And I am sure whoever is the first DT released, there will be a thread, Whoa guess who was released should we sign him??? :rofl3:

Well with a position we could be looking at I don't really mind those threads. It's the threads with players who really suck and are positions that we're loaded in.
