So, to compare apples to apples, LJ only played 3 seasons. So Let’s take Jalen Hurtz best 3 college seasons and compare:

Lamar Jackson
Comp % 56.9
Passing yards: 9043
Passing TD 69/INT 10
Rushing Yards 4132, Avg 6.3
Rushing TDS 50

Jalen Hurtz
Comp % 69
Passing Yards: 8712
Passing TD 72/18 int
Rushing Yards 3107
Rushing TDS 1

They played in similar systems only for 1 year. They are both explosive athletes who have good arms, but Lamar Jackson took it to the house with his legs 50 to 1 vs LJ. Jalen Hurtz was a more accurate passer, but threw 3 more TDs and 8 more interceptions.

Combine Numbers;

40 yard Dash
Lamar Jackson 4.34
Jalen Hurtz 4.59

Conclusions? LJ is blistering fast, Hurtz doesn’t quite have his speed which is a big deal. Although he is quite an athlete and a real threat to run, he’s not Lamar Jackson! Out of their college career, Hurtz was slightly more accurate from a completion % standpoint, but he nearly threw twice as many interceptions on only 3 more touch downs. You can see that extra speed reflected in their rushing touchdown totals.

Hurtz could be a real weapon, but he‘s not the fastest player on the field, where Lamar Jackson is every time and that does make a difference. Someone will take a chance on Hurtz, but probably not in the first round? There’s definitely plenty of talent to work with though...
Go check your numbers again...

I appreciate the post and the effort you put into this... But The Rushing touchdown ratio was not 50:1 Hurts had 20 rushing touchdowns just last season alone.

Three seasons as a starter Jackson had 50 rushing touchdowns... Three seasons as a starter Hurts had 41. ( not counting the season at bama where he was supplanted by tua and played as the backup )

As for Hurts speed... Google is your friend here... Hurts has been timed in the past running much faster than he did at the combine. Hurts did not go to the combine to wow people with his 40 speed... all that would do is convince teams to make him a position player rather than a QB... Same reason Lamar Jackson refused to run at the combine. If you need further proof... watch tape and watch Hurts run away from Linebackers... He has the speed to run away from all but the fastest defenders in football. Linebackers cannot stay with him unless it is some freak linebacker like Simmons.

But Hurts was timed at bama 2 years earlier running over a full tenth of a second faster... There is no question about his speed. He is a Strong QB with 4.4 speed...

He runs differently than Jackson... stronger... through defenders...

Hurts got the most comments at the combine about his throwing... That is what he went there to do... To throw beside Love, and Herbert and have scouts see his arm holds up against theirs. That he can make all of the throws, show accuracy and touch. He did it too... One of the stories of the combine was Hurts impressing with his arm, not his legs.

Looking closer at the numbers in three years as a starter Jackson had 119 total touchdowns. Hurts had 113 Hurts once he got out of Bama and the restrictions came off hm offensively showed he can push the ball down the field averaging 11.3 yards per pass. Where at Bama he was throwing for 7 and 8 yards a pass on average in his two seasons starting there. He is not a dink and dunk QB.

Also I am not sure where you got the numbers on Jackson... I went to check them.... They are wrong.

He had 69 passing touchdowns in 3 seasons but 27 interceptions... you had him listed for 10... So I am not sure where you got these numbers...

Here is a link to the stat line I am quoting.

Look closer at Jackson in college... only completing 57% of his passes and averaging 8.3 yards a pass

Hurts was not only more accurate and threw less interceptions... He was throwing the ball further down the field also.

This past season at Oklahoma what he did offensively throwing the ball was quite special. 70% completion 11.3 yards a pass... QB rating of 191!

Of course it is more difficult in the NFL

Hurts will need to continue to work on his second and third reads

Hurts numbers as a passer actually improved to where they compare to Tua's

Tua has the slightest of edges.... He completed 1 percent more passes... But they both threw for 11.3 yards a pass on average. Tua had a few less interceptions so his QB rating is a little higher... (191 to 209 ) But Tua did not rush for 20 touchdowns and 1300 yards on the ground.

Hurts caught threw and ran for a combined total of 53 touchdowns last year..

Tua rushed for 17 yards last year and has 340 yards in three seasons as a QB...

I love Tua's arm...But when you look at what Hurts can do on the ground...

It is time to stop pretending like he garbage and to end up with hurts is a bad thing.

Getting this guy in the third round would be an absolute steal

If the Fins were in the big 12 I'd consider Hurts.

Sadly, he has to face defenses that are more talented than the ones he had to escape in the SEC.

Hard pass.

Bro, I've never seen Hurts play and you've got me sold. Going on YouTube now,.

Just remember guys if we do draft Hurts I am president of the fan club:lol:

The Broncos aren't going to be looking for a QB in round 1, they are very happy with Drew Lock.

sorry about that, the column I looked at was his receiving touchdowns, that was my bad...u can see the chart says rushing and receiving touchdowns I looked at the wrong column

I acknowledge that I read the wrong column for his rushing touchdowns, but Lamar Jackson is much faster, a transcendent athlete with the only comparable ive ever seen as michael Vick. Hurtz is not in his league. Doesn’t mean he can’t be good, just means he’s not special like LJ who is literally faster than 99% of the players he steps on the field with.

there is definitely talent to work with there, but I don’t think he’s a first round prospect?

As much as I wish we didn’t have to trade up, I can’t believe that after 20 years of mediocrity, fans want to “let the draft come to us” instead of ensuring we get a QB
This is my thinking also. Just imagine if we don't get the guy we need this year and miss out on Trevor and Fields next year?! I'd be very disappointed, at some point you have to shoot your shot. Go big or go home!

The problem in going big or go home this year and to beat an already abused horse, your going big for a big injury. I believe that's the only reason fans are afraid of going big. If Tua's injury had never occured, I believe we would have much less push back about going big. I know I'd be advocating for a trade up at the top of my lungs.

And now the Racial Slurs are aleady playing the we want to rob you game. What are the odds that for 2 consecutive drafts we are going to see 2 first round QBs drafted back to back?

Last year Murray to Arizona was an aberration and this year taking a #1 QB in consecutive years is suddenly the norm? I'm not buying it.

I honestly think Tua will be there at 5.

We do not really know what Jackson would run in the 40 because he refused to run it...

We all agree he is a great athlete...

But say he runs the 40 in 4.4 flat... or even high 4.3's That is fantastic! But nowhere near the fastest player when he steps on the field... We have guys in the NFL that run in the mid 4.2 range...

Now back to Hurts... even if he is not quite as fast... He runs stronger and is 20+ pounds heavier despite being the same height. Point is that Hurts is not made of paper mache ... He will run through a lot of tackles...

A lot of teams do not want their starting QB putting his head down and fighting for yards on the ground... But Hurts is a QB that was born to do just that.

Can't agree with you there. I don't care if your QB is built like Refrigerator Perry, slide or get out of bounds unless the game is on the line.

I got those stats from a reliable site and although he didn't run at the combine he has been clocked before and that is where I assume that time came from. But also, all you have to do is watch his film in the NFL. It is clear from that, Lamar Jackson is one of the fastest players in the league dude, make no mistake about it. Hurts is a good athlete, and will get an opportunity, but he isn't as electrifying as Lamar Jackson, that's just a fact.

Doesn't mean he won't be good if in the right system, and with the right coaching and development. But he doesn't have the natural speed that LJ has, he's on another level, that's all I was saying.
