Is Dion Jordan a good player on a bad team or a good player on a wrong scheme ? Why is a very good football player of his calibre not getting enough rep? the reason am asking this questions is mainly because I felt that miami's dominant defense are under performing. players are not put in a position they are accustomed. The team's 3-4 base allowed its best players to excel. Imagine a lineup of guys like Cameron Wake, Paul Soliai and Jared Odrick. Dion Jordan and and OV as rush OLBs. That could be a scary defensive front for any QB.
Also why change what has worked, remember teams that have changed their defensive scheme always suffer setbacks, ie Houston Texans.

OP if I'm not mistaken players like Wake and OV are too small to play the ends on the 3-4. Those positions would be better suited for Odrick and Starks on both ends while Someone like Soliai mans the NT position.

Unfortunately, The problem is players like Wake and OV aren't very good in space to play OLBs

Why does anyone think that Jordan can't play OLB in a 4/3 defense?

Houston is a bad example. The Texans were a 4-3 defense in 2010 but switch to a 3-4 under Wade Phillips in 2011 and went from a bottom five defense to a top five defense in one year.

Wake isnt a 3-4 DE. He was a 3-4 OLB before switching schemes. Vernon was a 3-4 OLB. The reason Jordan didnt play was because he was behind both wake and Vernon and if you change schemes the exact same thing will happen. My opinion is that he surpasses Vernon this offseason and takes the starting role.

We need to figure out how to have Wake, OV and Jordon on the field at the same time. Jordon is a weapon, move him around in different packages. Let the offense have to account for him on every play. Is he coming, is he dropping in coverage? Time has come to let this kid get into things like Von Miller does in Denver. Number 3 in the draft and we gave up a 2 to get him. We've got to feature him this year in a big way. No more kid gloves or training wheels. Put him right into beast mode. I hope he's working out with Wake this off season. I want to see a lean, muscled monster who happens to be blazing fast.

been saying it.. gets all your best on the pitch at same time.. like the original "No Names" did during the years of Valhalla..

I totally agree with switching. I'd mean we'd only need two of Misi, Wheeler, and Ellerbe on the field for our base package, which is a good thing. Also, Jordan is a better fit in a 3-4, and I think long term OV could be a great 3-4 fit as well, since he did show some coverage ability in college.

We should let Jordon be a hybrid type of terror that the other team has to worry about. If BB had him on the Pats he'd use him like a maestro. We better get smart where this kid is concerned. Coyle has to maximize what this kid can do. He's a freakish athlete and I think 3 inches taller than Von Miller and about the same weight. He should be blowing up offenses. That's what you expect from the 3rd pick in the draft. The kid is the real deal, if we don't use him correctly we're to blame.

Starks is a better 34 DE than 43 DT. Odrick though is ideal for 3 technique DT.

I posted earlier today, you'd need to draft Nix and sign Wilfork. Then, who are the 4 LB's? Jordan, Misi, & Ellerbe certainly. Jenkins? Wheeler?? Spitler?

I don't like the 34 especially the style pittsburgh & Parcells prefer.

The style Marty S ran in KC back in the day was okay as it emphasizes speed over power. San Diego & ironically (?) the Chiefs use it a version of it now.

Give me a fast & aggressive 43 like Philly ran under Jimmie Johnson and the Seahawks use now.

It would a process to switch back now. One we would def have to resign Paul. Oddrick would have to gain weight back. Vernon would have to learn how to rush the pass from a two point stance. It's easier said then done. Our inside backers would be wheeler and elerbe. Elerbe proved he can play in a 34 but understand that when he was with the ravens he played behind a massive front and he had Suggs with him along with ray Lewis they demanded a lot of attention. Wheeler could not play in a 34 IMO. He is still trying to get off blocks. Misi may have to be moved inside cause his pass rushing ability was lacking. To be honest I prefer a 43 in today's pass centric nfl. The problem with our d last year was tackling and inside pressure. Miami needs a true three technique.

I prefer the hybrid defense, with the combination of players being able to play both 3-4, or 4-3 depending on the offense.
