What about Tim Couch

Some of you are just stupid. Why would you not want to at least give him a try out? What do you have to lose by letting him come in and try out. If he sucks he sucks....but what if hes better than what we have?

I dont bash Feeley because he hasnt really got a chance to shine due to lousy coaching/no run gane/no line. Same thing Couch had in Cleveland. He played hard and played hurt and payed for it. Hes a gamer. I think hes at least worth a look. If nothing else I think he could be backup. Ask Ray Lucas how important a backup is.

i say give him a shot. i'd be curious if his arm is fully healed. If it is, i wouldn't mind having a healthy couch with something to prove on our team. Being the first pick in the draft and going to the browns is a terrible combination of pressure and inevitable failure. I doubt daunte or donovan would have succeeded in a role reversal. However, couch may have proved himself worthy of the number one pick if he went to philly/minny. If he is healthy, surrounded with talent (which we have) and given no expectations, i think he would flourish.

And we are comparing him to frerotte (who i love having in a backup capacity due to his knowledge of the system) and aj feeley (are you guys forgetting that he was wannstedt's desperation move?).

Ferotte and Feeley are both miles better than Couch, teams have brought Couch in numerous times since he left Cleveland and he's done nothing to show he's any good except get a short stint with the Packers and be so miserable he gets cut. You can waste time bringing him in, but it really is pointless. He wouldn't be better than any QB we already have and it's just useless.....

I didnt know the Packers count as numerous teams since the broughth im in numerous times

Well i think the Colts brought him in for a tryout, that's what i meant so it is numerous teams. But it makes no difference, he was garbage then and he'll be garbage now so why waste your time.

If you had read any of the linked articles in this thread youd know his arm was torn up while in GB and thats why they cut him. They didnt want to pay a guy who wasnt playing bc he was rehabing.:shakeno:

I hope AJ is the second coming of 13. But you dont know that. None of you do. If Couch is healed up Im all for a competition even if its for a backup.

becasue we have worse garbage even though everyone is to proud to admit it you dont throw those kinda interceptions like Feeley does and blame it all on a bad o-line especially when he had very capable recievers who I'm sure go open more then Feeley let on. And so you know Steve Young was the same way Couch was while he played in Tampa Young was worse maybe so lets atleast see what Couch can do with decent above average recievers then say he sucks

Steve Young wasn't close to the way Tim Couch is because Steve Young had the ability to be a system QB with the talent to run, throw and make smart plays. Neither of which Tim Couch has EVER shown in Cleveland or even when he played very good in college. He was over rated, and if you WATCHED the game you'd be able to see that by looking at the way he plays as a QB. But i guess you never have, thats why your suggesting Miami take a look at him when if their entire farm of QB's were all killed Tim Couch would be the last man on earth that the team would look at.

Ok maybe not that drastic, but Miami isn't going to take a look at him because it's hopeless. Couch is through, he should just go take his money and enjoy his life because his playing days are over the kid couldn't cut it in professional football.

Well no one new Steve Young could be a system QB till he got to San Fran but honestly I think he did something personal to you because your just talking abd about him like he dissed you or something it's obvious he's better then our QBs but you don't seem to wanna see that

Low risk, possible solid #2 or #1 QB if he gets his head on straight, is healthy, and will finally have some offensive weapons. Plus he will be cheap to sign, at least for a year or two.

Exactly.

my supposition is that feeley was more than happy being a backup in oregon and a third string qb in philly. He didn't have the limelight, but he didn't have the pressure or stress. He was dating heather mitts, made decent money and could write 'nfl qb' on his resume. Then along comes spielman/wanny with a BIG contract offer based on his marginal skills and his ability to drive an all-star supporting cast to a couple (4 of 5 ain't that great when philly's your team) W's.

Feeley thinks: 'nah, i've got the life 99.99999% of people on the planet want, and you guys want me to give it up?"

Then heather enters the equation in nagging fashion: "you're not going to pass this up, are you? this is you chance to prove you can be the number one guy! this is your chance to make it in the big time! the big money goes to those with the balls to go for it! the winners aj, not the losers" she continues: but feeley hears "yada yada yada"

He thinks "why would i leave this situation? this is great, i love it here. I don't have to do anything, i live well, i get my paycheck, this is THE life..." and he says (for all you eddy murphy fans) "... ok"
Then he, his questionable talent and his even more questionable drive get shipped to miami where instead of creating his own waves, he bobs up and down in a turbulent sea. Feeley's got a good arm, but I don't think he has the passion or the drive to succeed as the number one guy in this league. He could work out as a cog in the machine, but I want more. I want a Qb is going to inspire his team and win games with his arm, legs or just sheer will. I would bring couch in (if he's healthy) because he at least wants to play.

And to further validate my support of couch:

Frerotte will be out of the league in a couple years.

Sage could have all the talent in the world, but he is making no effort to move out of his third string role (I would categorize him with feeley)

Berlin... do i need to say more?

Sorry for writing so much. I've got a hangover and don't feel like getting off the couch... ha ha! I keep posting in the couch thread! That was punny! Hmm...

Did you watch him play and get killed last year? Just to come back in and get killed again. Now you think he is just here b/c his hot girlfriend told him to be here? :shakeno:

Did you see the passion of couch when he was on the browns? I didn't and niether did the coach, that is why Holcolm won the job. He wasn't better than couch. He just showed he had MORE HEART that season and he had more respect from the team. Go back and look at that facts before giving your outlook.

Thanks for the long story, very entertaining.

Dont laugh! Yes I know Tim Couch washed out in Cleveland and a lot of quarterbacks much better would have done the same with the lack of talent surrounding them. It didnt help that Couch was beat up as well. But hey the guy is a gamer, looks to be healthy after shoulder and eye laser surgery and is refocused. Couch is about a month away from being able to try out and it wont hurt to bring him in for a tryout. He has better stuff than Feeley or Frerotte and at the least could be the Dolphins second or third string quarterback. There are a number of guarterbacks who get drafted high, dont get it done as they are forced into action and then later bounce back with solid careers. Couch sames to have learnt from his past and wants to play to win. He very well could be the Fins quarterback of the present and future if completely healthy and wont cost a lot to sign for a year or two. Plus he is only 27.

Couch has a bad shoulder
