That may be true, but the best FA player will want to be paid like an elite player because they're the best available and someone will pay. Who is the best LT in football, Joe Thomas? I think he makes $10.5mm a year. Is Eugene Monroe as good as Thomas? Probably not, but he's the best available in FA right now, so he'll get that sort of coin.

That's not really an accurate measuring stick though. Thomas negotiated that deal when the salary cap was lower. We're Thomas available this year as a non - tagged free agent he would likely command something like 12 per year.

But he's not a FA. Monroe and these other top LT's are the first contracts in an era where we know the salary cap jumps up big time each of the next 3 years.

It's kinda like when the Packers shrewdly signed Aaron Rodgers to his mega-contract. It seemed huge at the time, but it seems small now, comparatively.
