We've lost 18 of our last 25 games, folks. I have no idea why you think we still have a chance of winning the Super Bowl with JJ-era vets. We're a good two to three offseasons of rebuilding away from becoming true contenders again. By the time that day comes, ZT, JT, and Madison will either be in the twilight of their careers or retired. We're not going to win a championship with ZT, JT and Madison. We need to get younger and hungrier.

What a sad, sad number. You are making good points Blitz, I don't like reading them but they are valid for sure. I need to think about this...

They traded Harrison and Seau in 2003 after finishing 8-8 in 2002 (We'll be damn lucky to finish 6-10, which would make us 10-22, under .333, over the last two seasons with JT, ZT and Madison leading the way). In 2004 they went 12-4. They didn't need Seau and Harrison as "field coaches" in order to blossom into contenders for the first time in a decade. Perhaps they wouldn't have blossomed into contenders had Harrison and Seau stuck around.

Another thought. Blitz what if Wanny never got the right players to fit the championship defense with Zach, and JT? What if Nick can do that now, and still keep both of them Bro?

I would support Saban with whatever he decided, but me personally, I wouldn't even consider trading Zack Thomas. Miami has had some great middle linebackers over the years with Zack being the best. He has given his all for this team and deserves to retire a Dolphin and have his name put in the ring of honor. I would no more want to trade Zack Thomas as I would have wanted to trade Dan Marino in his later years.
We need more players on this team with Zacks heart and desire and as always this is JMO.

I totally agree. We would never get market value for Zach or JT because of their age. The most important thing is we have two NFL HOFer's on our team who love the Dolphins, the city, and the fans. They will most likely restructure their contracts in the years to come so it is financially reasonable to keep them on till retirement. Losing those guys means losing the heart of your franchise. San Diego got rid of Junior, and I guess they've won a ton of Super Bowl's as a part of that move, right? A team needs an identity. They need to love where they are and be willing to fight for it. Those guys never have given up in some pretty frustrating years, and they are not in their twilight yet. Zach is having a blockbuster year and JT is still pretty freakin' good. These are guys you build your team around as much as blooming superstars. I'm sure, of course, that Saban hates playmaking defenders because of their size, though, and will get rid of them to prove a point. <Sarcasm> I honestly think those two would like to retire together anyway given the family ties between them. Stop talking trade. It won't happen, and it wouldn't be worth it anyway.

I'd say a 3rd rounder myself. But, I'd never want him gone. He's my favorite Dolphin ever. He may be 32, but don't tell me he doesn't play like he is still in his mid to late twenties. He has 73 solo tackles, 41 assists (total 114 tackles), 10 stops for loss, 4 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, and 1 pass deflection through 9 games.

I understand that, but the question still stands, who will be the field coach if you trade Zach, and Junior retires?

There are plenty of good defenses in the NFL who don't have ZT and surprisingly they have success.
ZT is not a vocal leader, he has admitted it. He leads by example.
At his age and the fact that he has always had trouble shedding blocks (meaning he needs to play in the right scheme) he would probably command a 5th round pick. Just being realistic because teams don't give up draft picks that easily. Surtain was traded at the peak of his career and the Phins still only got a 2nd rounder.

He is not a vocal leader, put if someone is out of position on a play, he will put them where they need to be. The man does his homework, and lets the rest of the defense know what's going on if he sees what they are going to do. That is priceless in my book, especially when it comes to audibles, and the coach on the sidelines can't tell you what to do!

Blitz brings up several good points, and I'd like to think that I put the team's success before that of individual players. That said, Zach is almost on the same level as Dan to me. He is the heart and soul of our defense, one of our best MLBs ever, and the lack of success the past few years is NOT his fault. So please stop with the "JJ era" statements; our team has sucked due to the lack of a QB. Fiedler, Lucas, Griese, Feeley, Ferrote and now Rosenfels; gimme a %$#$@% break. Zach deserves to retire a Dolphin, and I just can't bring myself to vote in the poll. I respect Blitz's opinion, but I just can't do it and I pray the trade never happens.

I don't think we would get more than a 3rd for ZT - possibly a 2nd from TB as Chuckie likes him a lot.

Well put Bro!

The reason why Seau got traded was because he was going to get cut and wore out his welcome in SD and i believe zach hasn't got to that point. Zach is still playing great football and he is so much more valuable to our team then whatever pick we would be able to squeeze out for him imo (4th-5th). I agree that we need to get younger but that doesn't mean blow up all the veterans we have on our roster especially when we have some great ones like JT and Zach. We are definatley keeping JT because we currently do not have his replacement on the roster, the argument with zach would be we already have crowder who is looking like zach's replacement. San diego was able to make the moves they made b/c they had the people to replace the veterans in line. IMO you will have to wait for 2007 picks when we know who will replace these guys for sure and the vets are just holding the younger guys back from seeing the field.
