What do we have in Jordan Tripp?

I'm still optimistic about Tripp. Eager to see how he responds with a full season "in the system" under his belt and a clean bill of health.

Really? So because he's a 5th round pick he must suck? Damn I didn't know draft position was the only thing that determined a players career success! Maybe we should just forfeit all picks after the third round... No the second! That way we don't have to worry about drafting a Zachary Thomas or a Tom Brady or a Terrell Davis!

i am looking forward to him pulling a jelani jenkins this year and balling out!

MLB are starting to slide in draft rankings, could get a top LB in the second round. Recent mocks ive seen dont have Kendricks, Perryman or Mckinney in the first round. Tripp has to get bigger and stronger before he can fill the middle. Would expect him to be a full time special team guy with a shot at a backup role as an OLB before he is put in the middle of our defence.

This.

He has to get the OLB job down before moving him to a more complex position. I think he could develop into a pretty good outside backer, but as a Sam... I don't see it.

Perryman and Kendricks will be value picks in the early 2nd round/ late 1st round. I'd go there.

I dont see Kendricks getting past 49ers...

Only one of those is a top LB....the other two are 2 downs jags...

It's too early to tell, but I don't think we've seen many in the way of positive signs from gameplay. He's been a disappointing player in special teams, if you ask me. He's missed a couple of tackles and hasn't made an impact in either coverage or support.

But, that just tells me he might not be worth keeping as a special teamer. Whether he's worth keeping as a role player in the LB rotation or not is anyone's guess. I wasn't that big on him coming out of the draft, so I guess I might be biased. But there seem to be hordes of posters on here who think he's the second coming, for some reason.

The guy is a 5th round pick. On any contending team he doesn't make it through camp.

You know who else has been 5th round picks and later or even undrafted the last five years?

Alfred Morris
Richard Sherman
Kam Chancellor
Greg Hardy
Antonio Brown
Sam Shields
Victor Cruz
Charles Clay
Vontaze Burfict
Malcom Bulter (yes, the guy who made the interception in the last seconds of the Super Bowl)

Just to name a few.

What upside do you see in Tripp?

I've no idea. I guess we'll see how much he's bulked up from last season.

to me he looks like a clone of zach thomas but you never know what you have out a player until he plays...who would think jenkins was gonna be soo good if he never played

Anybody who ever saw Jenkins play knew how athletically gifted he was and would be a solid weakside OLB in a 4-3 defense. I mean the ONLY reason he didn't play more in 2013 is because we just gave huge contracts to Wheeler/Ellerbe . . . and towards the end of the year it became harder to keep him off the field. Jenkins can cover, there are spots for guys in the NFL that can cover from the LB spot. He's a more complete player by far

Tripp has instincts, sure, motor, sure . . . . but the guy can't shed blocks and he's not physical enough. Hell he struggles to shed blocks on special teams

He's definitely not a MIKE . . . . his best shot is backing up Jelani Jenkins, getting bigger and help give us leverage when Jenkins is up for free agency in 2 years. Until then, he'll be a special teamer and backup.
