What happened to cutting Matt Moore?

Matt Moore is one of the best backup OB's in the league. Tanny goes does down for a couple games he is one of a few backups who could actually have a chance to win those close games.. This is a quarterback driven league and I for one like the insurance he provides. Moore could be the different between playoffs and another year missed. I see Moore as 5 million well spent!

Agreed. Money well spent as insurance. You never know when you might need him and he fits the role of a supportive, team player type of guy.

Lets wait for the Jets to pick up one of the scrubs for their QB battle. Much rather they get Vick than Moore.

If you're a perennial playoff team with an elite QB and you want solid backup in case disaster strikes that won't derail your drive for a SB, I can see why you would want a guy like Matt Moore around.

But we are not that team and we can't yet say for sure if we have an elite QB. One thing is for sure, Matt Moore is not an elite QB, so I don't see the point of him on the roster. He's a mature, happy, chirpy security blanket for a team than needs hungry motivated highly-talented competition for Ryan Tannehill.

Forget about cap room. We should ditch him and probably Devlin and sign a new QB every year till we have someone breathing down Ryan's neck for a start. Even a late rounder or a UDFA, but preferably an occasional mid-late rounder with big upside.

The perceived benefit of a safety blanket QB is overrated. Plenty of teams do OK throwing in rookies and plenty of teams still struggle when they roll out their vet backup.

Moore has trade value. You could probably swing a late rounder and replace him for no loss of picks.

Many of them fear Matt Moore. They dont want anyone on the roster that may threaten Tannehill.

:sidelol:

I agree. Just think the idea that some posters don't want Moore because he is a threat to Tannehill is silly.

it is...he's not...

Moore gained more yards on one pass than Tannehill had in three quarters in Buffalo. Yeah, he ended up throwing picks, but they weren't any worse than what Tannehill had done to that point. Perhaps that most crucial mistake Philbin made over the last two games was to force Tannehill back into action in Buffalo when his play could have been improved upon by a wide receiver playing emergency QB.

you guys got me laughing my rear end off this morning...matt moore made one pass to hartline on a coverage played because the off the bench qb had just come in where they brought blitz pressure and vacated the deep middle with the safety a nice throw no doubt and then he threw steaks to the opposition on like the next few he threw...missed one in the middle of the field like 2 yards behind the wr for a pick etc...

the rollover cap space is worth more than what matt moore brings to the table...i mean clip board

Why would we cut him if he can be traded? He was in demand last year when teams were looking for a a backup/starter to replaced an injured player.

but let's not discount that he's won games for us. This is not a Moore/Tanny debate for me - it's about having a backup capable of winning games if our starter goes down. Imagine if the '72 team didn't have Earl Morrall? I'm not saying Moore is Morall but if we don't need the cap space right now let's hang on to the dude.

Fact is we need Matt.

No we don't. Nothing against the guy but there is no reason to use that much money on a backup QB that will never be a legit long term starter in this league. I would much rather invest that money elsewhere.

why wouldn't you hold onto him until the draft ... and IF someone calls with a good enough deal, then trade him.

teams are waiting to see how the draft pans out - for those needing QBs ...

additionally, depending on how the FA and the draft work out for us .... we may still need him - if the OL doesn't 'appear' solved ...

What ever happened to the Larry Fitzgerald trade?

I read it on the forum so it must be true

Not to start the "this guy is available" type of thing, but . . . . . with Fitzpatrick just getting cut while only counting 2.75 mil against the cap, I think we have leverage. Maybe ask him to re-do his contract or trade him. I'm sure Fitz isn't going to be the only decent calibur backup out there. While Moore is a good backup, he's probably not 5 mil good.

I love it when they do that. They quickly marginalize him for a performance in a game where he was thrown to the wolves after the game was over and in deplorable weather.

Let's just invest somewhere else for the sake of investing guys, even though we had nearly the most cap space prior to FA. LOL

The combination of his salary and Tanny's is low considering the reward for having two capable QB's. If Tanny were elite and expensive you might have a point .... alas you don't.

Yeah, it would be a great move to cut Matt Moore for a guy he beat by a combined 31 points in two meetings two years ago. Smart move bro.
