I have a funny feeling about our owner and the ability to make a tough call... No it's not fun to fire people , but it must be done, I just don't see anything that sounds like it will happen.
At the minimum Sherman, Coyle, the OL coach, the Qb coach all gotta hit the road, and that's a minimum. If I had my choice the next tier would be lb coach, RB coach, and that bullcrap offense quality control coach. If I was dreaming I would put Ireland and most of our scouts on the bus, with Philbin carrying the luggage.
I'll always love the fins, but man if Ross sits by and does nothing it will piss me completely off. I hope my instinct is asleep, but I have a bad feeling about anything being done.

The only person who needs to go is Sherman. We need a more creative play caller who is a lot less predictable. Ireland and Philbin should both receive warnings that they need to get better results or suffer the consequences.
At 8 - 6 after the Patriots game we had good reason to believe that things were coming together. Do we purge the lot ie clean house just based on those last two games? They were absolutely terrible, but normally you don't totally change course based on 2 inept performances.

Ross needs to get rid of Ireland and Philbin and Sherma but I'd not be surprise if he doesn't. He's so dumb when it comes to football that he might think we made progress this year which we didn't

Ozzy rules!!

you dont think we need a different defense?

If nothing happens it will be typical Ross, hell he may extend the whole staff and Gm

When Coyle came onboard we switched to the 4-3 from the 3-4. Personnel issues still exist from that switch. We added Ellerbe who is more of a 3-4 ILB than a 4-3 MLB, Wheeler sucks in any scheme, Vernon and Jordan are tweeners who would probably be better fits as OLB in a 3-4 same with Wake IMO. Odrick is a better fit as a 4-3 DT and I think Starks can play both schemes and Soliai was just coming into his own as a 3-4 NT when we made the switch. Really our front 7 is a mixture of different personnel that don't particularly work well for the 4-3...we still have more 3-4 personnel thanks to Ireland.

That's not to say that Wake and Vernon haven't done well rushing the passer but both have been inconsistent against the run but I can just imagine the fear in opposing QBs if we had both these guys standing up in a 3-4 rushing the QB.

We improved against the pass this year but we were much worse against the run and IMO that has to do more with the personnel in our front 7 than anything else. You don't go from 13th against the run to 24th against the run because the DC forgot how to coach.

Good question. I actually like Coyle a lot. He seems to know how to develop the CBs better than anyone we've had in the past. Make no mistake the pressure will be on Jamar Taylor early next season to see if he can contribute. Many on here hate Nolan Carroll and Jimmy Wilson but Coyle has significantly improved both. Patterson's injury hurt the DB's significantly.
I think that the biggest Defensive failure was in the linebacking corps and in particular, Philip Wheeler looks a big bust. I would be interested to see what this Defense would look like by simply replacing Wheeler. I don't understand why we didn't do a better job of stuffing the run, but I'd be optimistic that it can be fixed. We were good some weeks and terrible the next. Very inconsistent.
Next year a healthy Dion Jordan with 15 lbs of extra muscle should be ready to make his contribution. Odrick and Olivier Vernon should continue to improve, I'd be reluctant to get a new Defensive Coordinator, who would want time to develop a new system and get the personnel to do it.
Feel free to chargrill me, but finding a Defensive Coordinator who really understands how to develop talent is rare. Coyle is also the only coach who gives honest answers to every question at the press conferences. He told us months ago that Jordan would progressively be given some snaps but this is a learning year for him.

If nothing happens? Not only will it be a long offseason on this site but finheaven will explode.
