So you're saying, in terms of individual skill and ability, he was better than the season before? I disagree unmitigatedly.
We had very little passing offense that year. The stuff we were getting done in the pass was mediocre, short-gain, inconsistent, infrequent and ineffective. Ricky was used a lot -- Over those two years he had rushed the most times of any RB in history over a 2 year period.
Given, the line was poor but there was no excuse for Wannstedt's lackluster decision making. There had been an enormous turnover, but it was really no secret when and where Ricky was going to run. Nevertheless, they kept pounding the buck. If Ricky had run as much as the average starting back that year, he would have gained about 980 yards.
