What if...?

I'm set with believing this is really about the offense as a whole, not just any one player.. off-season/pre-season is all prep & simulations; there's not real 'live fire' consequences.. new OC, new book, new terminology, some new pieces - that takes time to gel.. Kelly/Lazor didn't hit stride until Wk9 of 2013.. having the bye after Sunday will def benefit 17 and the O.. plus Pouncey, Moreno, Smith will prob be back.. give this thing time to gear up.. Foles wasn't who he is now, in college.. he and 17 were pretty much the same guy.. big, strong, low-key, no touch, launch low, not able to move the throw, mostly 1-side/2-read, doesn't set guys up or move them with eyes.. look at him now (Lazor).. all this adversity is tuf to watch; but only good can come from it

Drew Brees.

Actually Drew Brees did not start in his first year so I took the numbers in his 2nd and 3rd year. The numbers should even be better because he had a full year to sit and learn. I'm not saying Ryan Tannehill is going to become Drew-Brees-like, I am just responding to your challenge.

While I do appreciate someone actually putting thought in to this, and it probably is one of the better examples someone could come up with I still wouldn't say it's an entirely fair comparison on the basis that Brees had the chance to sit and learn for a year, started all 16 his second year, and then only had 11 starts his third year, while it seems Tannehill is gonna get a full season this year.

Regardless though, I'm glad to see there is an example of someone who was able to turn it around, gives a tiny sliver of hope for those of us (like myself) that never really had it for Tannehill.

Why would the forum meltdown if Tannehill does his job?

I think the OP and some others are under the impression that many here want RT to fail and would be very disappointed if he turned into the franchise back we've been hoping to find. The reality, at least in my case, is that RT has already failed. Throwing a good game against weak opponents here and there won't change that perception. The only thing that will change it will be consistent quality play and I just don't think RT is capable of that. Pretending to have a franchise qb when you really don't only means it will be that much longer before you actually find a franchise qb.

except Tom brady only torched them for 16 points.

So the Raiders are a good team because they lost to the Pats even though the Pats were having a bad game?

Tom Brady is on the downswing of his career and is only throwing to an army of white dudes.

Isn't it funny how it works. Tom Brady isn't allowed to see productivity decline based on age, but Tanny is allowed patience because of age. That way it's more palatable for them to directly compare the two in a vacuum.

The good news is if it somehow gets turned around and even if we make the playoffs QB will definitely still be a high priority in next years draft. There is no way Philbin and Hickey will ever put their careers solely in the hands of Ryan Tannehill again after this.

Then we will all be happy..and it will mean nothing until it's consistent.

Nightmare scenario. Brady retires in 2 years and tannehill ends up as a patriot and excels beyond what any of of us thought possible. If it happens I will accept responsibility for it.

Anybody that wishes for a mid season coaching change is just out of their mind.

Why? If we're sitting at 2-6 and Ross knows he's not retaining Philbin for another year, why not make a change?

Maybe the biggest mistake in franchise history was firing Sparano midseason and allowing Henne to be benched. That allowed Ireland to stick around, cost us Luck and left us at the bottom of the barrel as far as coaching candidates willing to come here.

I hope qb will be a priority. And as dry as it's been for us in that dept., I wouldn't mind seeing a more aggressive philosophy whereby we assume we don't have a franchise qb until we're absolutely sure that we do. We lose too many damn years by having only one real option and taking 2-3 years to find out he's not the guy. Draft someone in 2015 and unless he shows he's without any doubt the guy, bring another on board in 2016. There's nothing wrong with having two young slingers competing for the job.
