what is the deepest field in the MLB?

Of course the all time deepest center field would be the Polo Grounds where the New York Giants played. I think it was at least 480 maybe 500 feet dead CF.

They had that section that just went to dead center, that must have been crazy if a player actually ran through there and caught a ball.

I love the old ballparks, it's too bad I never got to go to most of them including old yankee Stadium as I wasn't born when it was in use.
 
Why would they get rid of something like that? Whose idea was it to replace those with cookie-cutter Astroturf monstrosities where tarps eat players?
