What makes this dolphins team the best in many years.

Coaching and Attitude. I believe that is what will make us better this year. Coaches that are willing to teach and motivate. From the reports we keep hearing, the players are buying into a new, less predictable system and that could make a huge difference.

Even now, poole may come back:cpatch::cpatch::cpatch:

Sorry, no he's not. I still think we'll be okay at corner though.

[Miami Herald] Will Poole is expected to miss the entire 2005 season after having reconstructive surgery on his left knee, a disappointment to the Dolphins who hoped to salvage the cornerback's season.

Poole tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during an offseason training session May 4. Monday's surgery also repaired the player's medial meniscus.

The Dolphins figure to have Mario Edwards, Reggie Howard and rookie Travis Daniels compete for that starting spot now. The club last week also brought free agent cornerback Ty Law to camp.

Lets not go crazy guys.... I'm gonna "question mark" for you

This team is severely weak in the secondary...with the exception of Madison, there really is nothing there now that poole is gone, but even he was unproven as a starter (?)

At Linebacker the dolphins should be all set...

At defensive tackle, if Bowens cant go this year and Chester cant make it back to form, the phins are in trouble (if traylor signs, that may be a different story)...everyone saw how weak the interior was last year, and these guys at 50 percent wont get the job done IMO....still somewhat weak there... (?)

D-ends - with Kevin Carter and JT, phins should be all set...

The team will return a solid defense again, but learning a new system, and SEVERELY weak in the secondary. If I am Saban, I'm hoping my guys get to the QB or tailback quickly, because if the tailback breaks free or the QB has time, I'm in deep crap.

For offense, the offensive line is very unproven. While the coaching was terrible there last year, there are still young guys there that are forced to learn another system. Gonna be improved, but a very, very weak part of the team. (?)

AJ Feeley also had terrible coaching, but he isnt the second coming of marino. Let's see what the guy can do with a Linehan rather than that Foerster the TEs coach. If he does well this season, then we can be more sure at the QB position. Don't be surprised if Frerotte passes him. Either of those guys arent superstar qbs, just average. (?)

Tailback is a big question. How is ronnie brown gonna do. Top 5 picks arent guarantees every year, and we arent used to having them to know first hand about busts. Lets hope Ronnie works out. We have plenty of quality backups for a good tailback, lets see if the big guy can cut it. thats another question mark. (?)

Wide receiver is perhaps the most stacked part of the team this year, hands down. Chambers, Booker, Boston (if healthy) are going to be lethal. A much-improved Derrius Thompson is back.

Of 8 different categories (DB, LB, DT, DE, OL, QB, RB, WR) I had question marks in five of these positions....10-6 COULD happen, but still not likely IMO.

:yeahthat:
I couldn't agree more!!! 8-8 is a very vrey good season for us. anything higher is WAY overachieving

THis season is hinging on Hudson Houcke and his work with the O-Line. If that doesn't work, you can forget about the Nick Saban or the depth factor. Forget about everything. IF those guys can't block, nothing is gonna matter.

DEPTH. With the exception of CB, we have great depth at all our positions. Seriously if we had surtain this year we would make a strong run at the division with the rookie coach.

Even now, poole may come back, howard was capable enough in carolina, maybe he can step up. And this year we can handle injuries better.

There is absolutely nothing that shows me that this is the best team in years. Nothing... We have added some players, we have changed coaches. On paper, we should be a better team than in past years. But come February of 2006, whats on that paper won't be worth spit...if the team hasn't improved.

I seriously think that some of the hype of this offseason is bolstered because we are coming off a poor season. In the past, we normally are coming off of a good season and we all had expectations that the additions in the offseason would make us a little better...but this year, we are coming off a poor season. So, if we end up 8-8, we'll all be saying how great we are, but in reality...that'll be only so-so compared to where we have been in the past.

I've been following the Fins too long to let myself get into that trap...when the season starts and we see how this team reacts to the changes, we'll have a much better idea, but for now...it's all on paper...

it is saban, houck, linehan, bagget, quinn, smith, mel phillips...a solid coaching staff that will teach, instill confidence (missing in past years!) and a fresh scheme on both offense and defense that will blow away the stale shi%$ we have seen the past few lame/wannstedt years...thank God!!!

CB is a concern, but we still have Madison, and a LOT of teams only have one good Corner, or NONE, so I think we'll be OK

who even said they were the best in many years?? I remember having the #2 or 3 Defense in Football about 3 years back..Season hasn't even started and already in your little fantasy mind they're already better?? We don't even know if they're better than LAST YEAR!!!!!:shakeno:

True, now think about it, we had good depth in 03, but not very good coaching, and we won 10 games, this year we have good depth, and good coaching...are there really still people out there that expect us to go 8-8 or worse?

I kind of disagree, look at last year...

If we would have lost RW, Timbo and Chester in 03, would we have won 10 games?

If by many you mean2 then I agree, you will be better than last year but please stop w/ the nonsese that this year's team will be the best dolphin team in MANY years. You'll improve by a few games but let's not go overboard.

we haven't played a game yet.....but i feel the energy. I think our coaching staff will be prepared better .......

I dont see why everyone is so optomistic. I know they want to believe in the boys, but we are still going to run the same ol lame D. One or two guys arent going to make a huge impact on D, especially when we got rid of a great shut down corner. If we were going to go with the over front, ONCE again, why get rid of Pat? Poole couldnt even hold Pats jock. STUPID!

Like I said, the strength will switch from secondary to the line, but thats even worse then having your strength in the secondary. That just leaves big holes for a good QB, such as Favre, Vick, Peyton, and others. Our DL will get the penetration, only an idiot wouldnt agree with that, but will they be able to do it all game long, so keep the passes from coming out? NOT, only an idiot would believe that too. And then, if a guy like Vick broke the containment, GAME OVER.

I got no doubts there... You are right about that. But, the fact is, the personel they have to work with, proves only one thing. This team will look like last years team. Same formations, but probably with some new tweaks.
