What this years SuperBowl means to the NFL...

I think the league is a little biased towards the Patriots IMO you may argue but I feel this way.
That is pretty much the general concensus amongst the fans (except patsie fans, of course).

I love this thread :) I have a running "joke" with my friends about the Patriots "conspiracy" that's been occurring since 2000.

It was no surprise to me that the Super Bowl following 9/11 had the Patriots coming out on top. Hell, they even changed the pre-existing Super Bowl logo to Patriots colors. Even though underdogs, it was hard not to predict the Pats would win. The Patriots have been in power ever since there's been a war on. It's the feel-good story of the league, which I have taken to calling it the Patriots Football League or PFL. You can still call it the NFL or New England Football League, that can work too. After Thursday, I agree too...the NFL is yet again all over the Pats like white on rice. I was surprised that ESPN (the Entertainment, Sports & Patriot Network) put on that Mayne Event slamming Brady...that was awfully big of them to do. Though they have to show some amount of unbiased coverage I know to make it "look" that way.

LOL- I know, I'm crazy...but it's so much fun. Last year NE at PITT for example. I was explaining my conspiracy theory to my friends and they were slamming me. But then I called the next two NE plays, one of which was a touchdown. They immediately told me to shut up, but by the end of the game, I turned the PITT fan into a believer...

Thank God for the win over the Pats last year though...that was mine and I'm sure every Dol-Fan's Super Bowl!

I think there sould be an astorus around Patriots and dynasty. The league is clearly biast towards the Pats.Remember the invention of the tuck rule and very questionable pass int calls against the Panthers. If not for those N.E. would only have last years superbowl.

Wow..........I think this thread is proof-positive that we have some seriously envious haters on this site.

I think you confuse the wonderul NFL for the WWE. Let's get real for a moment. Let's just say the NFL orchestrated the first Patriots SB due to 9/11. What, all of the sudden football fans worldwide just dropped allegiances to their respective teams and mindlessly drooled and thought "Awe, I'm so glad a team named The Patriots won the SB during such a catastrophic time" ?????? Kind of insults alot of peoples' intelligence levels don'tcha think?

The fact that the Patriots won the SB that same year is merely coincidence, something you fail to recognize. If anything, perhaps the Patriots themselves suddenly found an amazing piece of motivation knowing that they were "The Patriots" during a time when patriotism was at it's peak.

The league supports all of it's Super Bowl winners.......... is that really that groundbreaking? No. Dude, if we won the SB we'd get the same focus.

It's not the support that upsets me.When did you ever see the tuck rule before that game. And the announcers of the Car. superbowl game was pointing out the terrible interference calls.

You're very selective in your perception. No doubt that the tuck incident was blatantly a fumble, but it's not like the league has never mucked up calls before. What's ironic is that the league changed it's rules when it pertains to DB's getting physical with recievers after what transpired in the Indy-NE playoff game. What more do you want? And of course we got to watch that BS season Peyton Manning put up because of that..........tainting Marino's stats.

please dont call the patriots a dynasty..........dynasty's can cover the point spread!!!!!!!!

Well I can't help but be selective against a team I hate and I agree with your other points. The horsecollar is bs too when teams was tearing Rickys dreads out it was part of the uniform.

There's a consipiracy :D

It seems the Pats always get calls late in the 4th quarter..not to mention I remember the NFL "peoples" talking about how there are no dynasty's anymore. Hmm..it could be true  ;)

Thank you!!! Isn't that so frustrating how everything seems to go their way...

Maybe the Patriots "get calls" late in games because their coaches make sure they don't make the same stupid mistakes that everyone else does...

Don't you all think that if the league really wanted a particular team to win after 9/11 that it would have been the Jets, Giants, or Redskins, the teams that play in the three cities that were actually hit in those attacks?

Today is a day of remembrance, not coming up with conspiracy theories for why a particular team has been good ever since terror attacks...

You think the NFL organized the sheared blood vessel that essentially ended Drew Bledsoe's NE career and opened the door for Tom Brady? I seem to remember everyone talking about how long a year it would be for the 0-2-at-the-time Pats. But no, they were just making sure that the Golden Boy whom no one had ever heard of outside of Ann Arbor that was drafted in the 6th round would become the biggest star in the NFL for the best team in the NFL.

You think they wanted to make Bill Belichick the best coach in the NFL? You know, the guy who wears one expression, not to mention one hoodie, for the entire season? Wouldn't it make more sense to highlight a coach that divides partisans, like Bill Parcells or Herm Edwards or even Bill Cowher, a guy that people actually knew beforehand?

Come on, guys, you're better than this.

Someone on this thread said it was coincidence that the Patriots won the Super Bowl that year after 9/11. It could very well have been. All I know is that year I was not surprised in the least that they did, even before the game started. I pretty much knew after the tuck rule game. And why not the NFL pushing the Jets, Giants or Skins to the Super Bowl? Were they even in the playoffs that year?
Ever since then, it seems to me anyway, that there have been alot of coincidences that seemed to favor the Patriots (i.e. referee calls, plays that go their way, etc.) I don't doubt their caliber as a team...but everything just seems too perfect sometimes. And you can't deny that the NFL and all of media are all over their n*ts.
I as a dolphin fan, and hated division rival, am just sick of it. Much like I was sick of the Bills of the 90s and Jets of the 80s. But like I said, I joke around about this...do I honestly truly believe there's a conspiracy? Probably not...it's just fun to argue about
