I say get jones over there. I like the idea of smith at fs...but I think we need to sign a vet in that position for him to sit behind a year. Just don't see him succeeding if we just throw him in there

I for one am a massive fan of Bell, who IMO has been exposed, not playing next to a true FS........but like most I also feel Reshad Jones is best at SS.......thus I would cut Bell.

Not a fan of Reggie Nelson. One good year after a couple of very poor ones does not warrant a decent contract in my mind. An under the radar player I would love to sign is Richard Marshall. He is a decent CB, but played a fair bit at FS last year, covering Kerry Rhodes. He had very similar stats to Reggie Nelson and would be able to come up in slot and be a lot cheaper.

My D would look:-

DE - Mario Williams
DE - Cam Wake
DT - Odrick
DT - Starks

OLB - Dansby
OLB - Burnett
MLB - Dan Connor

CB - V.Davis
CB - S.Smith
FS - Richard Marshall
SS - Reshard Jones

Move jimmy Wilson there where he will shine above the rest

I am a huge Jimmy fan but he isn't ready to play Safety. Jimmy is going to be a fine nickel corner this season.

This whole thing is dependent on the Free Safety, you need a better player at FS. It will help every aspect of the defense from linebacker coverage underneath, corner coverage would improve and Strong Safety play benefits from a FS with exceptional range.

Problem is most of the Free Safety and Strong Safery options in the draft and in free agency have some sort of knock against them and the best safety avalible this off-season just got franchised in Oakland.

A guy like Griffin or Nelson should provide and upgrade at Free Safety if the money is right. I then would love to see Bell's cap number lowered so he can play one more season with Jones backing him up. Assuming you take care of the FS position this off-season and restructure Bell to a lower cap number you can upgrade the SS position next off-season and move on from Bell then.

The fact that soeone voted for "Keep YB for 1 more year at $6.2 Million" is proof that Yeremiah Bell is a Finheaven frequenter.

How about the nimwits that said extend him for another 2-3 years?
Bell is one of the worst safeties in the NFL in coverage
year in and year out he is either #1 or very close in being targeted
by opposing teams...Think the other teams don't know about his shortcomings.

Ask yourself why our team has so much trouble covering tight ends
Bell is a huge part of the problem...Don't you 28 people that said we should
extend him see any games?? Bell is more times than not trailing receivers/tight ends/running backs and always a step or two/three behind the play.

Bell leading the team in tackles is great but with this new NFL
he is a huge liability in the passing game

As for teammates being upset if Bell is released
PLEASE...the NFL is a business nothing more nothing less

Because the range of our Free Safeties sucks and has sucked since 2008. Bell might was well be alone back there and forget about running a cover 3 scheme.

It's funny how everyone rips on Bell but year after year desipte the shortcomings of the Miami secondary he is right there:

Yeremiah Bell is the second best Strong Safety in the game. He is not going anywhere, they need to concentrate on giving the guy some help back there.

Bell at 6.2 million is too expensive. You have a very young safety who is a solid tackler in Reshad Jones waiting to take over from him and with the experience he gained as a FS should excel as a SS all over the field.

Sometimes you gotta move on.

Id rather pay Bell's salary to Landry.

Damn

Bell has done well over the years but our safties cannot cover jack

Harrison Smith of Notre Dame would fit in nicely at Safety if we can pick up extra second rounder by trading down. It all depends if we can sign Manning or Flynn through free agency first. One more week of waiting.

we need a ballhawk safety. philbin wants an agressive team. one that causes turnovers.. our entire secondary is a liability when it comes to causing turnovers if we are being honest. sean smith has dropped more ints than he has caught for crying out loud.

we need improvement... bell needs cut.

As much as i like YB and what he brings in terms of leadership and run support,he's not getting any younger, and i think it's time to cut him and move Reshad to SS, bring in Reggie Nelson in FA,and draft a Safety like Harrison Smith or whomever Ireland and Co. have their eyes on.

Safety play, (behind QB play & pass rush) spells struggling to break .500 ... needs a serious upgrade.

We need to address DB this year ... and the depth is also very thin!! When a DB went down last year, the wheels came off the wagon.
