I'm not saying that I want to trade him. Lets say we get Flynn or whoever in here and we see from the beginning that he is our guy. What do you think we could get for Moore before the trade deadline? If our new QB is here to stay and Moore will be out of here at the end of the year anyway, lets get something for him while he has value.

I also understand that we need a backup if the starter goes down. There would be a risk in getting rid of him.

Moore has minimal trade value and won't be going anywhere as he is a good back up.

He did a decent job as a starter so he could probably fetch a 6th round pick, maybe a 5th round pick. If we could get a 7th round pick from the Panthers for Josh McCown, when he never played a down in Miami, I think we would at least get that value. Though if they sign Peyton Manning, you want to keep Moore around in case Manning is not healthy. Even if it is Matt Flynn you probably want to keep Moore around as an experienced backup.

I started a thread about this a little bit ago, I personally think we could get a 3rd or 4th round pick for this guy. Look at his stats and QB rating. There are at least 8 teams that would consider Matt Moore better than their starting QB (including the JETS). Matt Moore is in a contract year and will work hard for any team he is dealt to. I am not a Keep Henne guy, but considering the amount of 2nd round picks teams have spent on QB's including the Dolphins, I think we could easily get a 3rd... But I do agree, he is a reliable backup QB.

It would have to be a real QB desperate team to get a draft pick that would be worth us shipping him out for what his value is to us currently. At worst he is an average starting NFL QB, and at best he is possibly the best back-up QB in the league. Given our current QB situation, I say we have to keep him.

he played well enough where i think 5th round is possible...but its not worth it...he's worth more to us to stay and he's CHEAP

Trade value is not based on where a player is drafted but how he performs. Chad Henne Is not going to get a 3rd or 4th. Additionally, the Dolphins would have to re-sign him first and that is not going to happen.

:lol2::lol2: a 3rd or 4th rd pick, you might be able to get that if you throw in Cam Wake w/ him. 3rd or 4th rd pick:lol: most teams understand Moore is nothing more than a career backup, he's valuable as a backup but no team would even give up a conditional 3rd or 4th rounder, you'd be lucky to be able to get a conditional late rd pick.

We can argue all we want on what we think he's worth or what supposedly the stats say he should be. It all comes down to what teams would give you. Honestly, they'll see him as nothing more than a potential decent backup that did well when put in last year. They'll still be somewhat worried about his Carolina days and if we won't give him a shot as the starter, then he's not that highly regarded. So if he's going to be our backup QB to whomever we get, then he's not going to be worth trading for what we'd get for him. If he's going to get cut or be #3, then we get whatever we can.

There's a lot of value in reliable back up QBs, Moore showed why that is, last year with his performances, we might be surprised at what he fetches. We gave up a 5th for Thigpen, who had a lesser body of work than Moore has and is nowhere near as good. Every team needs a back up QB they know they can rely on should their main guy go down. I wouldn't want to lose Moore at all, whichever guy we bring in to be the #1. If it's Manning, we need Moore to back him up for heath issues, if it's Flynn we still need him to act as insurance against Flynn being another Kolb. If it's RG3, Weeden or god forbid Tannehill, Moore may well be starting day 1 next year.

You may be right Junc...but then again just look at how the Bengals completely fleeced the Raiders for Carson Palmer. Now, I know Palmer has a much better pedigree than Moore, but that right there just goes to show how stupid really desperate teams can be. Now personally, I don't think that some team will offer anything higher than a 5th if we put him on the trading block, but you never know....there are several teams he could go to now where he would be their best QB.

I still think his value to us right now is much higher than anything we could get for him in a trade.

we'd get better than a 7th round conditional for moore...he's a qb which means his values auto higher than it probably should be and he's so dirt cheap someone could view him as a stop gap starter for them which makes him worth more than a conditional 7th alone
