Since there are talks about the Dolphins possibly moving to a 4-3 D
My front seven would look like this:

DE: Phillip Merling
DT: Randy Starks
DT: Jared Odrick
DE: Cameron Wake

This is the makeup of a very athletic D-Line that can disrupt a passing game.

OLB: Free Agent Signing: Erin Henderson
MLB: Karlos Dansby
OLB: Kevin Burnett

This is would be a very athletic, and active LB corp.

I would draft heavily on the offensive side of the ball, and make a couple of splashes through free agency on the defensive side of the ball.

What you do guys envision:

Merling would be a better DT imo, and we need speed rushers as DE. Wake is perfect but no body knows how Misi will pan out at DE, so we need to find a DE. I dont know if Dansby will be good as a MLB in a 3-4, since he played OLB in Arizona and they ran a 4-3, but he might be able to make the transition. Im not too happy about this transition...our players are ready for a 3-4 why switch?

Merling is a RFA and either won't be tendered or he will be low tendered and traded for a late round pick. This is a no-brainer.

The front runner for DC is Coyle from Cinci. DB's coach. This would likely mean acquiring free agents Reggie Nelson FS, OLB Manny Lawson and LB Dan Skuta. These three all had good years and Lawson was very good for his 1st year in a 4-3. That would give us Dansby in the middle with Burnett and Lawson on the outside with Misi and Skuta providing excellent depth and versatility to run an occasional hybrid and base 3-4 as well.

With Soliai and Langford walking the Dolphins could sign Mario Williams and have a base 4-3 line of Wake,Odrick,Starks, Williams. With those LB's and good run support from the secondary, can you say, "Devastating"

Draft Weeden and it's on to the playoffs!

Your best most athletic pass-rushers are Odrick and Wake, while Starks has shown he can also be pass-rushing beast from the DT position, and finally Kendall Langford (Who played DT in College) with his tall frame and long arms can be a problem for QBs to throw over. All 4 have proven to be very tough against the run.

DE: Jared Odrick
DT: Randy Starks
DT: Kendall Langford
DE: Cameron Wake

Dansby can be a very good M-LB, but I think with his insticts against the run and blitzing ability, he would be better served to play at the end. Many continue to knock Misi, but he is good against the run, and is probably one of the best setting up the edge. Burnett I think can play the M-LB, and is a better blitzer from the middle then Dansby. Both Dansby and Misi are good in coverage, Burnett is ok.

OLB: Koa Misi or FA/Draft (Sam)
MLB: Kevin Burnett (Mike)
OLB: Karlos Dansby (Will)

As stated on other threads.

If Soliai is let go, throw his money at Mario Williams

DE Mario Williams
DT Randy Starks
DT Jared Odrick
DE Cameron Wake

Langford/McDaniels for rotation.

Safety??? If Kevin Coyle is made DC it will probably be FA Reggie Nelson who had a great year in Cinci last year. He might even be a bargain.

Bell may be a cap casualty, and in that case I like drafting Harrison Smith in the 3rd round.

ideally the LB core would have Dansby and Burnett as OLBs.

Disagree. I love Dansby in the middle. IMO, he has Urlacher ability there. 4.5 speed to go sideline to sideline, excellent coverage of RB's coming off their blocks and can cover elite TE's down the seem

Bell is the only person back there I would re-sign, restructure his contact (due 4.3mill) draft a later round replacment and YES YES YES to Reggie Nelson!!!

Dansby's a very good player but Urlacker?....come on man

Ozzy rules!!

Mods should merge all the 4-3 threads.

We'd need two 4-3 DEs, we don't have an ideal 4-3 DE on this team and that is a scary thought.
