What's the Goal of this season, realistically?

Even if things break right for Miami, we're still a middle-of-the-pack AFC team. NE and Buffalo are significantly better on paper now that Buffalo shored up the D, 3 teams in the AFC North are better, 1, if not 2 teams in the AFC south are better (TN is probably better, especially if Kenny Britt is back), and at least 1 team in the AFC west, assuming San Diego continues to flounder. Very few of Miami's players would start for any of these teams, and I think, ironically, that Vontae Davis is one of these unless he's hurt (not injured), which he frequently is.

So when you ponder personnel moves, this ^^^ really has to be taken into account. I think all you can really do this season is evaluate your talent. I think (hope) the players competitive fire will push them to win as much as they can, as that kind of effort is needed to really be able to properly evaluate your talent (and lack thereof). This also includes coaching talent. I don't think we're gonna be much worse than last year, but unfortunately, very similar. We'll be middle of the pack and we'd have to trade up to get a difference maker, or trade down for an extra 2nd or 3rd. We need at least 2 WRs, IMO, another quality if not 2 depending on who leaves or gets hurt this year, at least one more legit pass-rusher (we suck at this and we know it), and a legit FS, if not both starting safety positions.

Bill Parcells destroyed this team, I just have to say it. Getting back to the topic at hand.... In YOUR opinion, what will constitute a quality season? Playoffs or bust? Tanny getting his feet wet and demonstrating that he's the right QB for the next decade? Tell me...

I wish. Without stars you can't win playoff games, so even if we 'toughed it out' and somehow made it into the playoffs, we'd get crushed just like we did in 08. We're bereft of stars. Whether he was a dick or not, Brandon Marshall was a star. Only getting a 3rd round pick for him was criminal, IMO.

:lol: How exactly did Bill Parcells destroy a 1-15 team that had John Beck as its starting QB and Ted Ginn Jr. as their play maker?

If you want to crown NE the division champs then go ahead and crown their ass, but Miami plays to win the game! Don't know why but Herm Edwards and Dennis Green came to mind when reading your post.
 
Super Bowl is the ultimate goal

As for my hopeful goals? Develop the young guys we got, see if they can be building blocks, and see if the new staff can be the one that finally takes us over the top.

Wins would be nice, but the goal is to see how the team plays. Look at Carolina (who I used as an example in another thread). They have some huge holes on their team, they had the same record as us, but Cam Newton and a few other players really stepped up and Rivera and co did a good job coaching an undermanned team to the point where they went from "a team that's going to take a few years" to everybody's dark horse this year. The Lions went through the same thing with Stafford and Schwartz.

At the end of the year, I hope I can say Tannehill can be our QB for the next decade plus and Philbin will be our coach for that long as well.
 
He said realistic. Realistic is Tannihill developing into top nfl QB players learning new system being competitive in every game and figuring out what pieces we need in free agency and the draft to make legitimate run next year. Sit back and enjoy gravy season.

The super bowl is realistic for every single team. This isn't MLB or NBA where the major markets are the only teams in contention. It's football baby. That's why it's the best sport in the world.
 
If you're honest, letting Sparano stay around last year was a disaster. What we're going through this year is what last year should've been. My optimism is always tempered so long as Stephen Ross is our owner.
 
Put your self in a position to make it to the postseason. Once you get there, anything is possible. Hell, look at last year's Super Bowl champ. Did anyone think they were going to be champs after starting 7-7?
 
I'll sit and watch and root the same as you. But sorry realistically we will not win the super bowl. Is it our goal like every other team of course but it's not going to happen "realistically". Which was title of this thread
 
I hope Tannehill has a Bradford like rookie year, plays every snap. Every snap he takes this year only makes us better next year. If him playing at a Bradford like year leads us to the playoffs then that would be gravy. This could happen with easy schedule, key injuries on other teams and our defense being top 5 in both yards/game and pts/game. At the end of the day I'm hoping Ryan gets every snap and grows throughout the year. so going into 2013 he is the unquestionable leader of our offense and team.
