Whats up with you Pessimist?!

No, I will not go root for those teams, I am a Dolphins fan. Always have been, always will be. I am not OK with "mediocrity", but I am also not OK with bandwagon negative fans. I don't live in Florida, so I can't go to every home game, but being out of state allows me to see what is going on elsewhere in NFL cities and I can see a big problem with the Dolphin fan base.

My first Dolphins game in Miami was the 2000 playoff game against the Colts. I just happened to be in Florida(Orlando) the week they were up in New England and the weekend after. After the Dolphins won the division title I thought it would be really cool to drive down to Miami and see the playoff game. Though I thought tickets would be impossible to get. Called up, and I had a wide variety of tickets to choose from. Not only that, the game ended up being blacked out in Miami because they didn't sell out the stadium.

Since that season, I make a special trip down from Pennsylvania to see the Dolphins play in Miami. It is a shame to say, but every time the stadium is far from being filled and a lot of the fans at the game are not even Dolphins fans. Last year I was at the Bears game and the year before that the Saints game. Both games had a fair share of empty seats and I would say the stadium had close to 40% Saints and Bears fans. It was really pathetic last year because the game against the Bears was a prime time night game when the Dolphins were in the thick of the playoff race. Thousands of empty seats and Bears fans everywhere. I thought I was in Chicago when I went to my seat.

Everyone talks about how this team needs a new QB, or new coach, or new GM or new owner. Maybe we need an upgrade to the fan base also? I know some of you don't want to here this, but this is a big problem and became a national laughingstock with the whole "We want Orton" chant at the FREE practice at Sun Life Stadium.

The other prominent excuse I get from Dolphins fan is exactly what you said. "play in cities with not much else to do". That is the oldest most pathetic excuse out there. The Dolphins play a regular season home game 8 times per year. There are 365 days in a year, so a season ticket holder would have to commit 2.2% of their year to attending the games. Is there so much to do in Miami that you can't spare 8 days(we are only talking in most cases a commitment of 4-6 hours in these days) to go to a game? If you don't fish, will the fish go away? Will the ocean go away that you can't swim the next day? Come on now.

If the Dolphins have a losing season, Sparano will be gone, Ireland might be gone and they will probably draft a first round quarterback. Everything the fans seem to be yelling for. Still though, the fans will still stay at home, the stadium will have empty seats and opponents fans will fill the stadium. That problem will never go away and is a major problem that most of you are blind to.

Yeah let's blame the fans b/c our GMs haven't drafted a QB since 1983 - that makes sense.

No, they just moved away. Here are the demographics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami,_Florida#Demographics

Just up and moved away huh? One day they are there the next they are on a Mayflower truck out of the area.

Miami's explosive population growth has been driven by internal migration from other parts of the country, primarily up until the 1980s, as well as by immigration, primarily from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Up until the 1980s. I don't recall the fans being much of a problem in the 80s or early 90s. That most have been before the great big move out of Miami. 34.1% in 2000 were of Cuban descent. A lot of Saints and Lions fans living in Cuba before moving to Miami?

I am referring to white folks. They make up only 15% of the population in Miami-Dade County. This city is obviously huge, but you asked why there's so many fans from other teams, and that's why. Most of the white folks that live here are transplants that come mostly from NY, but also largely from those cities you mentioned. The rest of the population are immigrants from Cuba, and various other latin american countries that don't follow football.

I agree with the guy that started this thread. Do the pessimistic people here think that this is helping our teams attitude and confidence? It gets old reading all of this doom and gloom here. I must have watched a different game than most of you on Friday... I thought they played decent and have a lot to build on, we have a lot of talent here and I think they will be fun to watch this year...the OLine was the biggest problem but that can be fixed...we have done that before. I am excited that Football is back and love this team. Lets give them some support!!

You mean in the first round, And its unfair to count most of those Years because we had Dan Marino!!!!!!! He retired after the 99 season, so its only fair to say we haven't drafted a QB in the first round POST Marino in 11 years. Last time Patriots drafted in round one was Drew Bledsoe in 93.

Looks like they didn't do so hot with him either...just another game manager. Took him till year 4 to look great, I think he went to a superbowl :p

That's all fine and dandy, but they've needed a Quarterback for 11 years, and for 11 years they've felt it's ok to use stopgaps. I blame Huizenga for hiring people that mostly just preach "Defense defense defense!", and don't do much for the offensive side, despite the fact that this league caters to the offense.

What do you want the Dolphins to do? Fiedler was 21-10 in 2000-2001, 36-23 over all through 2004
2005 Frerotte went 9-6
2006 was Culpepper?! Who would have known he would be so bad with the knee injury, you say we should have drafted but if we had brees instead you wouldn't say that.
Poor Trent Green got a concussion in 2007
2008 Chad Pennington was 11-5
he got injured and now we have (IMHO developing and will be just fine) Chad Henne
Its not like they haven't tried and did okay.

Its Hard to Find a QB, a draft pick has just as well a chance at ending up on this list of QB's

well I would expect us to make qb a priority in draft instead of taking like the 4th best prospects and gimmick players. But year taking olinemen and dlinemnen over and over again is a better way

@dlockz

Its worse that 4th prospect

If we would have drafted a QB this year he would have been the 5th, 4 were taken ahead of Miami before the 15th pick. IDK about you but the 5th QB at pick 15 is a bit of a reach, don't complain today for something that will prove wrong down the road. I'd rather wait will next year as well

Teams like Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Washington, Houston, etc. have done far less over the past 10 years and are likely to not do anything this year either. However, their fans show up to the games, support the team and have some sort of optimism entering this season. The Dolphins just have an overall ****ty fanbase.

Yea, the show up to the games.............with paper bags on their heads. Im not even making that up either. Im sure you have seen the games. The idea that our fanbase is inferior to other fanbases because a lot of us are really fed up and down on the team right now is just ridiculous.

Dont u know thats the constant theme in Miami this past decade. When Brees was there at our pick the staff and some fans were like he is not an upgrade over Fielder we will take one next year. Well year after year we still have failed to get that guy

And many other teams as well, I'd rather not look back and say "IF or BUT" Its all about luck man.

So all the fans that grew up from around the 80s died off and never had children?
