Whats wrong with this defense?

Face it, Ellerbe and Wheeler are worse then Dansby and Burnett. Wasn't a good move by Ireland to downgrade 2 LB spots

All I know is Fred Jackson just did what he did with broken ribs

Jackson may have broken ribs but our defense has one collective broken brain.

We need to refurbish our o-line and get some linebackers who can run and know how to hit.

The offense was clearly inept....but a defense that gives up a 19 play, 10 minute, 90 yard drive, featuring 14 running plays...covering parts of the 3rd & 4th quarters....deserves more than its share of ridicule.

Exactly! If the defense only gave up 3 points or all the points were due to the offense turning the ball over in bad territory then you can say not to blame the defense!

Go take a look at our offensive rankings. That is what is holding us back IMO. The defense is not perfect I get it, but if this offense could ever average like 24 points a game It would help tremendously.

I'm sorry. Don't say a damn word about the defense. This was all on the ineptitude of the offense.

The only opponent this defense has been able to get off the field against is Geno Smith. You may be impressed by mediocrity but I'm not. Mediocre is better than terrible, which is what the offense was. It's still not good.

I don't think either Starks or Soliai have done much in the last three quarters of this season to make themselves irreplaceable.

So misguided... The offense was beyond terrible. The defense wasn't great but had the offense not had so many 3 and outs or maybe had the offense scored some points at all the defense would have looked much better. Neither is great that we know is true.

I agree, but our offense is what it is, not much talent at all. Our defense is stacked compared to our offense in terms of talent, and continues to under perform week after week. thats what makes it so frustrating to watch, and can be solely blamed on coaching. Top 5 defense a few years ago with Nolan, with far less talent

Keep blaming the defense but the offense scored 0 points. You cannot win like that.

Oh I agree that the offense was beyond terrible. However that's one game. The defense has been giving up momentum changing long drives ALL SEASON!!!! And the TOP was about even when the d gave up that awful 9 minute 19 play drive.

AZ's right. The offense was horrific today, but that doesn't excuse a poor defensive effort, either. They let a team with it's third-string quarterback and its top receivers out hit some big plays and then to possess the ball most of the second half. Wheeler's penalty deep in Bills territory when we stopped them on third down was one of the plays of the game. I think Odrick jumped into the neutral zone in another situation when we had Buffalo deep in its own end.

This defense has had far too much difficulty getting off the field on key third downs and has given up too many scoring drives after we've taken momentum in games to be free from examination. I feel like a broken record, but this has been going on all season.

The thing we need to realize about this team is there are a lot of deficiencies, and, if you're serious about competing regularly with the big dogs in the NFL, they all need to be upgraded. Like I wrote in another thread, last year a lot of us were saying we just needed to get RT some weapons. OK, so they did that and now the O-Line is garbage. If you put all your eggs into the basket of improving that, you still have no decent RBs and you have a defense that I think is teetering a lot closer to disaster than we like to admit ... the secondary's extremely shaky, Wheeler has looked increasingly bad, our pass rushers do inopportune disappearing acts and our two star DTs have underperformed and are free agents.

You can't just fix one and hope the other stuff is acceptable. If we learn one thing from the way this year's team was constructed it should be that.

What's wrong with this defense is that Thad Lewis has two career wins, both against the Dolphins without throwing a TD...that's pathetic.

Would have been a three and out, but for Wheeler's dumb penalty. I think that took the final wind out of their sail. Be fair, they were on the field A LOT today. They weren't good but imagine how demoralizing each offensive series must have been to them. And then Wheeler...oh, Wheeler...

Lack of consistent playmakers.

look at all the late round picks and udfa on this team. overachievers that for the long haul are just average players lacking consistency and impact.
