Where were you when Marino tore his achillies heel?

I was home watching in my living room and if memory serves me Danny completed the pass on the play he tore it.
 
I was sitting on the can with the TV turned up loud so that I could still hear the game. I just sat there and couldn't believe what I was hearing.

The rest of the drive was pure hell, as was the end of that season when we lost in week 16 with the platyoffs on the line :(

I can't help but remember OJ Simpson was the NBC sideline reporter that day and when he broke the news that he had been told by the Dolphins medical staff that Marino tore his achilles and that it appeared Marino was lost for the season he had the biggest grin on his face like a kid on Christmas morning. I remember being so pissed that he seemed to be so happy about this being the Bills homer that he was at the timw.

The last laugh was on OJ because I believe this happened to be the game that the Lawyer in the civil trial dug up some old photos to prove that OJ had previously worn the Bruno Magglio shoes that lead to him losing the civil case after OJ said he never owned a pair of Bruno Magglio shoes.

I was watching on the crappy TV in my parents room b/c my sister was watching a movie on the big tv. Watching with 3 of my brothers and my dad....it was horrible, just horrible. Man that was a lost season.

He did and if I remember correctly it was to Terry Kirby.
 
Watching the game with dear ole' dad here in Miam.Was in Cleveland i believe, he just stepped back and i saw him go down. Nothing sadder to a Fin fan. We lost alot of things that year...so did Danny. I was only 13 or so when that happened.

F-baseball and the sorry *** grounds crew in Cleveland. If they laid that sod correctly, this conversation never exists and Marino gets more time in his prime to win a ring. Just thinking about this pisses me off all over again.

As usual, at home watching with my dad.
After the inital verbal outbursts, I don't think either of us spoke for quite awhile.
I kept waiting for someone to fill us in on the joke.

Too bad the Browns or Goldmans will never see a dime of that $$.
 
I was at my buddy's house watching in horror as I knew in an instant that our season was over. What sucked even more is that Marino was having his best season to that point in 10 years. Dan was never the same after that day and always had that hop in his step. I swear they screwed up his surgery because LT had the same surgery as did Shula and they didn't have that kind of limp.
 
I was living in Newfoundland, Canada and was with a bunch of friends watching the game with a few beers.. I don't think I have ever felt more depressed in my life watching Marino go down. I still believe that we could have won the Super Bowl that year if it was not for Dan's injury.

That image is still so fresh in my mind...Marino is the man. I had hoped to make the trip to Canton this year to see him get inducted into the Hall of Fame.. But things have come up and I cannot make it.

Will see it on tv though.

They also didn't have the same kind of achilles tear. I remember at the time reports saying Marino might not ever play again because his achilles didn't tear quickly and cleanly but rather was more like an explosion where pieces of the muscle went everywhere. This made the surgery that much more difficult and to this day the achilles Marino tore is noticeably smaller than his other leg.

In other cases, much like a broken bone, if the tear is clean it's relatively easy to piece it back together. I know this because I tore mine a few years after Marino did. If Marino had tore his in the same fashion he did ten or even five years earlier he probably would have never been able to play again because the medical technology to repair his kind of tear simply didn't exist.
 
i was in a whore house getting laid but the radio was on and when I heard that i lost my focus in hurry. i remmeber that season because my woman left me , my truck was impouned and my bowling team went on a losing streak.
 
I was with my family on the beach at Captiva. We were listening to the game on the radio when Dan went down. Of course, we continued listening in the hopes that he would be fine when Mitchell threw the pick. I turned the radio off after that.

Later, when I thought the game would be over, I turned the radio back on. To my surprise, we were winning!

Small consolation, though, as we'll never know what kind of season we could have had.
