Which head coach do you want?

You don't have an opinion on the subject?

I say, Whisenhunt or Todd Bowles, I think Todd did a great job as HC after Sparano was fired going 2-1 and did a masterful job with the Cardinals defense this yr......

I am not sure who i want.

It's hard for me to really have a good feel for him one way or another because his track record is great when he's got Kurt Warner or Philip Rivers, and terrible when he's stuck with Matt Leinart or John Skelton.

But considering that I'm very bullish on Ryan Tannehill, I could definitely spring for that.

Got to have players in this league to win...

Super Bowl experience is huge. He knows how to prepare a team. I'd like to see RT with a proven offensive success.

Man, that is a tough call. I think this team has some nice young talent so the right choice could mean some nice years for the Dolphins. Someone mentioned Todd Bowles and that might not be so bad, but push comes to shove I'd go for a proven guy like a John Gruden or a Bill Cowher. I know Gruden didn't finish strong in Tampa Bay and probably wouldn't be a 10-year answer, but that's really not the NFL today anyway with a few exceptions. In the short-term, he could turn the team around in a hurry.

One thing I think Ross needs to consider is how the team stacks up in the AFC East. We have become too much of a finese team and need to get more physical. Can we find a coach who can combine that emerging Packers' passing game and mix in a physical running game?

I would consider Jay Gruden but that's another first year head coach not sure this franchise would be willing to go that way once again or not.

He has head coaching experience. Yes, it was Arena League. He won the Arena Bowl twice as a head coach (and four times as a quarterback).

I'd take my chances.

If Philbin was getting canned, it would have happened. The only way he gets canned at this point is if we hire a new GM who then fires him. And lets remember that Philbin was actually Ross' hire, and Philbin wasn't hired by Ireland. So there's a good chance that Ross will be picking the HC, not a new GM.

Jon Gruden - would love to hear his press conferences talking about TAN-E-HILL

or

Darrell Bevell - has experience as OC and QB coach. Has worked with QBs of all kinds (Brad Johnson, Tavaris Jackson, Gus Freotte, Matt Hassellbeck, Brett Favre, Russell Wilson). Has had a solid running game in Minn (before Peterson and with Peterson) and Seattle.

The improvement in post game speeches alone would be worth a few wins :chuckle:

Ireland must go down, everything else will fall in place.

At this point I just want a guy who can implement a new exciting, creative offense. I don't even care if our defense regresses a little bit, we need to score more points on offense even if we allow more points on D. And if this guy feels he needs a different QB to run his offense, so be it.

I like Ryan, I really do, but the truth is this team hasn't scored enough points with him as quarterback. We can blame his lack of receiving weapons in 2012, we can blame the putrid offensive line he had in 2013, we can blame everyone, but the whole jekyll and hyde thing he has going on is no recipe for success. I'm not ready to give up on him yet, I see a guy who has potential, but he has been very inconsistent in his 2 years in the NFL.

He needs to continue working on his accuracy, not just with the deep ball, but in general. Also, his pocket awareness has been better, but there will be times when the pass protection will falter, it happens with every team, so he has to be able to move around in the pocket better. This year, our OL was so bad early on that it exposed Ryan's issues with sensing the rush. He HAS gotten better, but he needs to continue to improve.

I just don't think it's so easy to find a franchise QB that you can just give up on your young QB projects so early on. IMO when you have a guy that has shown some flashes, you need to stick with him, give him 3 years, no more. Next year, get him a better OL to improve the pass protection and the running game. No more excuses for him. Also, I would even say the need to improve our receiving corps is overrated, I like our guys, especially with Gibson back. But if you can get him one more target, someone who will fight for the tough catches, a physical WR, go ahead, it'll help.

But as I said, year 3 = no more excuses. He needs to get better, be more consistent. And that should translate into scoring more points and turning the ball over less, which will = more wins if we (hopefully) continue having a decent D as well.

Next year will determine a lot in terms of our QB situation. And at the end of the day, if he fails, well, it is what it is. Next project up. You move on. But if we get a new head coach that feels that Ryan isn't the answer, and that we can have a more productive offense with a different guy running the show, then like I said, so be it. I'm just sick of having a poor offense year in and year out.

Gus Malzahn. 2 main things I want in a head coach, 1. someone with head coaching experience on any level - the stats just show guys w/ HC experience have more success than those who do not. 2. Brings something unique to the team. I think Malzahn's offensive prowess is a unique quality that will instantly improve this team. We have to score points, period. This guy will allow us to do that.

I'll post a link for those unfamiliar with him:

This is a link talking about his offense:

I have no idea if he is/will be available, but we must inquire

Todd Bowles is a hot commodity this offseason... reportedly turning down interviews and will be highly sought after. I wonder what the reaction would be around here if Ross brought Bowles back to coach the Dolphins in 2014.
