Green Bay and Pittburgh are widely regarded as great FO's mainly for their ability to draft and rebuild from within. Another reason they have been able to do this has been there's owner's patience with regimes.

Let's take a look at the last 4 draft classes from Pitt, GB, and Miami; since those are the only drafts Ireland has been in on (therefore the only one he deserves to be accountable for)

Here's my criteria so you can't argue my judgement with anything but factual rebuttels of your own, if I've made an oversight FACTUALLY I will be willing to concede to you.

I've based a successful pick being a solid NFL starter or better, some of the more recent picks from every team can eventually prove themselves to be that i.e. Daniel Thomas or Clyde Gates; but for discussion purposes lets exclude them from being considered a successful pick.

1 team drafted 6 out of 34 (17%)

1 drafted 5 out of 33 (15%)

1 drafted 8 out of 32 (25%)

Can you guess who had the highest success rate? That big idiot :rolleyes2: Jeff Ireland, gosh, why would we trust HIM to build through the draft (this is blatant sarcasm for the knuckledraggers).

Point being, we are drafting well under Ireland, if we continue to draft this well we will be back to respectability sooner than later. But we must quit with the regime flipping, and big splash pleading or this organization is forever doomed.

But I thought that if every one of our draft picks wasn't a sexy pick or a sure-fire hall of famer that our draft was a bust?!

Interesting to say the least!!! but Ireland needs more personnel skills with regards to his approach to interviewing and handling players, he seems to be failing in that dept ...

The problem isn't that we have drafted poorly its that there aren't really any home runs.

I went ahead and highlighted some guys that have at least contributed a bit or seen any kind of success. These aren't very sexy drafts, but they have given us some kind of foundation to build on

Thats the beauty of making safe picks, you fool some people into thinking your doing a good job because of all the "starters" you've picked. Luckily for Ireland our owner is one of the fools.

OP are you jeff Ireland? That was a lot of work to put together that post defending a guy who has had the team at 7 wins the last few years. You are comparing a team that has had those less than mediocre records to perennial powerhouses like pitt and gb, of course less rookies will make those teams and start than the Fins.

Being a "starter" means nothing. Hartline has been starting for us when he wouldn't for a single other team.

To be fair, some of our starters would not start on a Super Bowl contending team like Pittsburgh and Green Bay. And I'm sure they both have players on the bench who would start here.

Nice thread...

Im being patient and seeing what happens this year. The problem here is that Ireland likes having quantity over quality, therefore it becomes difficult to draft playmakers or homerun hitters.

Dont get me wrong, hes drafted very solid considering our spots (since he is always trading down for extra picks). He's spent his lowest draft picks on home run hitters in Jake Long and Brandon Marshall (considering he gave up 2 low second rd picks)

How many pro bowlers/ all stars do we have? Maybe my perception of the team is totally warped and we have the talent we need to compete for the playoffs already and the new coach will take us there. Either Sparano was the problem holding back Irelands talent, or there is not as much talent as we think or a combination of both. Well we have a new coach so lets see how the team does this year.

We were 1-15...how hard do you think it is to start on a 1-15 team? The better question would be how many of our starters do you think would start for Green Bay or Pitt? Brian Hartline? Nope. Koa Misi? Nope. Phillip Merling? Nope. Chris Clemons? Nope. Sean Smith? Probably not. Vontae Davis? Maybe for the Packers but probably not for Pitt. John Jerry? Nope. Reshad Jones? Nope. Chad Henne? lol...Nope. Jake Long? Ding, Ding....we have a winner.

Good points.

I would also add the undrafted Free Agent Pickups:

1. Cameron Wake
2. Davone Bess
3. Brandon Fields (not sure if he's an UDFA)
4. Dan Carpenter

Fields was drafted by Cameron/Mueller.
