Who Had Better Draft Classes from 2008-2011 Mia, GB, or Pit???

I think this team was way better than the team Ireland inherited, atleast before the Marshall trade. That's not saying much to improve a 1-15 team. Half of our starters wouldn't play on decent teams. Misi? Hartline? Clemmons? C'mon. Look at the 2nds wasted on Marshall, merling, white, even Sean smith. 1sts should be pro bowlers and 2nd,3rd,and 4th rounders should be quality starters. Where's the pro bowlers? Long shouldn't even count cause he was the obvious #1 overall. FA pickups have been hit and miss and a lot of his picks are cut after a year. Why draft a project player and cut them the following year??? Edds, Murphy, White, Turner. Also Donald Thomas started 1 year then cut, Jake Grove the same, but he will resign Merling who hasn't done $h!t for us since 08. We should have enough Acorns to plant Sherwood Forest!!! The league wide perception of him is irreversible and he should be fired immediately after the Draft if we dont get our future QB!!! I'm tired of sub .500 seasons and it's time for change!!! Posting % of starters per draft doesn't mean a thing when they suck. Pitt and GB have been drafting well for 10 years so it's not as critical for them to get 3 or 4 starters each draft. The players that they do draft are way better than ours and that's why they win Super Bowls and make the playoffs consistently. When's the last time we drafted a Mike Wallace in the 3rd or 4th round???
 
Dude. Quality over quantity. I would take Raji, Matthews, Nelson etc. Over our "starters" any-day of the week.

Wallace, Brown, and Sander are 3 unheralded WRs that have all contributed. Wallace is one of the best in the league. Heyward and Hood are going to anchor their D-line for years. Pouncey is going to anchor their O-line for years. Mendenhall has been a top RB. Worilds will step in as soon as the Steelers dump another high-priced LB like they always do.

For the Dolphins, Long, Pouncey, Langford, Hartline, Smith, Davis, and Odrick are really the only guys that have made any kid of impact. Clemons and Reshad Jones are pretty terrible and would not start on many other teams (and neither on can lock down a starting spot in Miami). Merling and Henne were big-time busts. Thomas, Gates, Clay, and Wilson didn't really show enough to say that they will be major contributors going forward. If we want to be homers, sure we can overrate them. But legitimately, they were not consistent and all have major question marks.

It's a bit flawed, however, I wouldn't call Merling a complete bust. Also, if the jury is still out on Thomas, Clay, Gates, and Wilson (all of whom I did not include as 'starters') it is also out on Worilds of Pitt. Also, some of those contributors you mentioned from GB, Sherrod Newhouse Lang Sitton, aren't particularly good players.

So even by your logic that is 8 for Pitt, 8 for GB and 7 for Miami. Keep in mind also the more good players you draft the better your next players can become because they have a solid foundation around them. (this is all very chicken or the egg)
 
I would say that hartline, smith and odrick are decent ( Odrick may work out to be good as he has only played one season) not very good or all star. I look at it this way which guys on the Fins would most other teams want to trade for. LOng, Pouncey, Davis are the only ones i can say for sure that most teams covet.

Okay so there's 32 1st round picks a year, the average NFL Career is 6 years (link1).

So say they have 2 years to become pro bowlers (you will let them develop for at least two years right? or should they be pro bowlers their rookie year) There should be 98 Pro Bowlers every year right with 32 to new starters?

Okay, and then 2nd 3rd and 4th rounders should be QUALITY starters.

There are 22 starters per team 32 teams.

That's 704 possible slots, that means using the 6 year average there would be 54 quality starters a year without a job.

That is of course assuming that every starter in the NFL is in fact a quality starter.

Do you see how crazy your expectations for drafting are here??

Well damn...looks like both the Steelers and Packers won Super Bowls in that time frame.

Wonder how this happened?

Probably happened somewhere around the top with ownership and front office people.

Just a guess, though.

3 straight losing seasons says more than your whole post! Judging by the crowds at the games nowadays, I dont think many people are buying into your theory.
 
Those last three draft classes all had something oddly similar for two of the teams... they already had a superbowl caliber quarterback... and were drafting around slot 32 most of the years..

But who is the odd team out... the genius running the dolphins who thinks that building as if we have a franchise quarterback will lead to the same superbowl results as those teams building WITH a franchise quarterback.

lets keep finding excuses for him... NEXT YEAR he will figure it out. NEXT YEAR we will address the most important position in professional sports. NEXT year we will be looking at 7-9 if we are lucky.
 
If you look at GB roster, most of their roster is built through draft, starting or not. I like Ireland. If you judge him after Parcells left, IMO he has drafted and signed good FA.
 
Good post. But stats are skewed. Gb and Pitt were highly competitive and had overall better depth and better players, hence less holes to fill, hence less starters. The interesting thing would be to look at starters drafted from 3rd round on. Nice post though!
