Who Had Better Draft Classes from 2008-2011 Mia, GB, or Pit???

He's had 4 drafts, roughly 28 players (more than half a roster). How long does it take? Do we have one playmaker from any of his draft classes?

Realistically 6 years at least, because your draft picks need to start hitting their prime.

D "Thomas might be a playmaker, Hartline makes plays, Gates may become one; R Bush is a playmaker

if you read the thread its 32 players, teams carry 53 and noone has ever hit 100% on a draft class; drafting a team takes time you impatient morons

6 years? The Detroit Lions went 0-16 and 4 years later were in the playoffs and look like they're going to be there a while.

I'm not asking who "looks" like a playmaker....where are the playmakers? We have none.

You gotta be kidding me. You're really trying to compare the fins drafts to the Packers? The Packers have 3rd team players that would start on our team that were drafted.

Reggie Bush? We sure didn't draft him...why is he relavent in this thread?

Much needed thread. Although in fairness the list is going to stand out to anyone that follows the Dolphins as we aren't very familiar with other team's rosters.

They don't play football in Western NY do they?

You want to know every player that was on the 2008 Lions team that was on the 2011 Lions team...here they are: RB Kevin Smith, WR Calvin Johnson, LT Jeff Backus, RT Gosder Cherilus, DE Cliff Avril and K Jason Hanson...6 players.

Green Bay and Pittburgh are widely regarded as great FO's mainly for their ability to draft and rebuild from within. Another reason they have been able to do this has been there's owner's patience with regimes.

Let's take a look at the last 4 draft classes from Pitt, GB, and Miami; since those are the only drafts Ireland has been in on (therefore the only one he deserves to be accountable for)

Here's my criteria so you can't argue my judgement with anything but factual rebuttels of your own, if I've made an oversight FACTUALLY I will be willing to concede to you.

I've based a successful pick being a solid NFL starter or better, some of the more recent picks from every team can eventually prove themselves to be that i.e. Daniel Thomas or Clyde Gates; but for discussion purposes lets exclude them from being considered a successful pick.

1 team drafted 6 out of 34 (17%)

1 drafted 5 out of 33 (15%)

1 drafted 8 out of 32 (25%)

Can you guess who had the highest success rate? That big idiot :rolleyes2: Jeff Ireland, gosh, why would we trust HIM to build through the draft (this is blatant sarcasm for the knuckledraggers).

Point being, we are drafting well under Ireland, if we continue to draft this well we will be back to respectability sooner than later. But we must quit with the regime flipping, and big splash pleading or this organization is forever doomed.

If you really want to compare how many of our 8 starters are pro bowl players? just 1 none of these guys are difference makers.

out of Pitts starters Mendenhall, pouncey Wallace and Hood are all pro bowl stars.

Green Bay - Matthews, Raji, Finley and Nelson, Bulaga all All pros and pro bowl caliber players. Look at what Flynn can turn out to be

So yes we may have 8 starters but 1 of those players (Long)is even looked at as great. I would much rather hit on Pitts draft and Green Bays drafts then what we did.

I agree with the OP that Ireland has done a solid job drafting, it can be argued that his picks have been safe, however the simple fact is that the Dolphins are a much better team if they had a top QB.

And though many here dont want to admit this its the hardest postition to fill, Detroit was mentioned they went from 0-16 to a playoff team because they have a QB, teams desperately try to find a QB and fail.

Other teams get Lucky( pun intended) when the have a chance to draft an elite QB twice, Ireland is IMO doing a very good job building this team, two years ago he added Karlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall when it looked as if those two needs would make miami better, the hope was Henne would be a legitimit QB, he wasnt and now the team needs to find that QB.

BTW if Manning wasnt on the market he wouldnt even be in consideration, and Flynn well either you believe in a player or you dont, Pete Carrol believed in Charlie Whitehurst also how did that work out for Pete?

When Jeff Ireland finds his QB all will be forgoten.

3 players is all it takes? Well we have Long who's better than Backus, Wake just as good as Avril all we need is a WR and we're headed to the playoffs.

We're going to be alright everybody...Jeff Ireland will take a WR in the draft and save us all.

I am because it seems like the total IQ on this message board isn't in triple digits. ****ing idiots, I'm done trying to explain how the NFL works. It's pretty evident to people who realize ESPN pumps stories and headlines because its good for ratings, but real football people understand winning in today's NFL is built through the draft, and you need more than 4 drafts to do it.

I think what people need to realize is that they're not looking at our situation objectively. Ireland is bearing the brunt of the miserable failures of past regimes. The 11-5 season was the worst thing to happen to this team. Fans immediately thought "we're back!", but fail to remember that prior to the emergence of the wildcat, we weren't very competitive. But, we were 1-15 the year before!! Had Pennington not gotten hurt, we would've been in the playoffs the last 2 seasons. We rolled the dice on Henne, hoping he would be the future, and his deficiencies were the main reason for our mediocrity. But hey, it's all Ireland and Ross' fault. My merit increase was only 2.75% this year; God damn Ireland and Ross!

Its Irelands fault because he cant lure free agents, coaches or draft anyone other than a role player.

No MR. No Logic.....Point is they were already on the team, they were a good start. then they got their QB not to mention draft picks for Roy Williams. They were drafting in the top 10 for years, it wasn't a 4 year turnaround, and they still aren't complete. Who had we drafted that was on the 1-15 that's still here now?

6 players were on the roster in 2008 from the 53 that are on the 2011 squad...that's not a good start, that a complete overhaul and it took 4 years. Their GM knew what he was doing, he traded Roy William for a bunch of picks like a good GM should...we got two 3rd rounders for Brandon Marshall and while Marshall has his off field issues his productivity is 3 times that of Roy Williams. You're the one being illogical and irrational.

Dude, this is apples to oranges. While noone will deny Roy Williams is nowhere near the player Brandon Marshall is, you're conveniently leaving out the biggest contributor to his market value. Same reason arguably the most talented WR in NFL history in Randy Moss was traded for a 4th round pick. Why was he then traded for a 2nd? teams saw how docile he had become under Belichick and thought it was a different guy, what happened? his value went back up to match his production. Roy Williams did not have the baggage Marshall did, so the two can't be compared.

Don't tell half the story to make your argument look more legitimate.
