Who is the best Backup QB you have ever seen.

Love Earl Morral but what about George Blanda?

Earl Morrall

I loved Earl Morrall's because of his contribution to our unbeaten season but does anyone remember George Blanda in the 70s?

He the Raiders kicer and backup QB. He would come in and bail out an inconsistent Daryle Lamonica. Sometimes he would drive the team down the field and then kick the go-ahead field goal. He did this when he was 40-something.

Jeff Garcia. ...always found starting spot eventually

Hostetler. He actually won a super bowl as a Backup with Simms injured. Only one I know of that is a SB winner.

Depends on what you mean by "backup." Tom Brady started 2001 as a backup and the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl. Jim Plunkett started both 1980 and 1983 as the Raiders' backup and they won the Super Bowl both times with him starting (after injuries to Dan Pastorini and Marc Wilson respectively). Doug Williams was only a part time starter for the Redskins in 1987 and was the opening day and usual backup (he played very well in relief that year, but not so well when he started). Kurt Warner was the backup for the Rams the year they won.

There might be more but that's all I can think of.

I would say Reich.... amazing he was a back-up (and for so long, nont just one or two years), even more thinking about sopme of the starting QBs in the '90s.

Frank Reich was pretty damn good

Easiest choice ever. Earl morral took over for two different hall of fame qb's and led both teams to superbowls. He was 15-2 with the colts after Unitas got hurt losing in superbowl to jets and led the undefeated dolphins to 12 straight victories then got replaced by griese in superbowl. He also replaced an injured Unitas in the superbowl win over the cowboys.
Not even close best backup ever

THANK YOU!! I was really trying to bring out the homerism in all my fellow phinfans, but really Young, Montana? I will slightly forgive those who said Strock and beleive that they are too young to remember Morral, but I must scold you for not knowing the history of your fav team. And also leave it to some on this board to overthink what should have been the easiest question for a Dolphin Fan. Don't post often, but this was fun. Thanks for playing

Yeah I'm a homer but it's hard to argue with Earl Morrall. Don Strock a close second. Dude had a cannon.

Strock...Epic in Miami '82 playoff game. Even though we lost it was amazing to see how he just came in, calmed the team down and put up point after point driving the field. Total command of that offense.
