yankeehillbilly said:Because I think it would be a waste of time. He has played against some decent players in camp...and has failed miserably so far. Saban and Linehan don't seem to feel that he has shown anything so far that would warrant taking more practice time....including preseason games... away from the players that will be on the field when the games are NOT meaningless. That could change. They see him in camp every day and if he starts consistantly displaying more talent than he has so far, then perhaps they will move him up on the depth chart. I trust their assessment of the talent on the team far more than I trust the views and opinions of anyone on this message board. For the time being anyway, that assessment seems to be that Brock Berlin is the 4th string QB.
All that being said....It probably would be a good thing for the talk shows and message boards if Berlin did play a few series with the first team. I think we would be rid of all the "Start Brock" nonsense pretty quick.
I'm commenting on your post for several reasons but let me just state a few. Bulger, Hassleback, Brady and other QB's showed some apptitude for the position in practice on a regular basis over a long course of time and that's why they were given a good look. Berlin has played like dog doo in practice for basically all of camp and he gets in a game and does something against a bunch of scrubs and he deserves a chance? If your the coaches, sure your surprised he did a little once he got in a game and they were probably just as surprised as anyone. So he comes back week 2 and does a little more when he didn't in practice. A trend? Probably not. Before we waste precious reps in real preseason game why not just put him in with the first team offense in practice??? Come one guys, let's walk before we run here. If he does well over say 2-3 days against our first team D in practice than maybe move him up and get some reps with the second team O in preseason but if he doesn't get it done in practice which I have seen with my own eyes and than he doesn't get it done in practice with our 1st team O than no way.NJFinFury2004 said:That is the whole point, let him play and see! You can't SUM up this kids career saying where he will be, now that is RIDICULOUS. Marc Bulger, Matt Hasslebeck are a few other surprises in the NFL. Volek is another nice surprise. Let him play and see. One thing is for sure, he looks more mature than AJ does, no doubt.
emjai said:i see ur point, but when i went to a training camp, i didnt see berlin in any plays what so ever, they only rotated gus, aj, and sage. how can they judge if he should play with first team or even just second, if they dont even play him in practice?
Ozzy said:Brock drew some cheers tonight when he connected with none other than Maurice Mann for a nice over the shoulder 20 yard out. He still made some throws that were really off target, but he is showing how much he's learned since he started. Before it was almost every pass that looked terrible when in fact most of it was because he was throwing it to the wrong places. He even made a couple of good passes from UNDER CENTER. Well, he made me write about him for the first time this Camp. Way to go Brock.
