Bottom line is this we are going nowhere this year. We can spend this year on a 34 year old journeyman qb. We can start Aj and see if he can play. We can develope a young qb like most sucessful franchises do. If this team jelled in 2 years Gus is 36 years old not a good option. Aj has showed his true talent and we all can agree it sucks. That leave Rosenfels and Berlin as potential qbs. Since Saban decieded to pass over a good crop of mid round qbs this is all we have so let's see what they can do. 2 series to Gus and then split the time between Rosenfels and Berlin.

I like Brock, always have, but he's not ready to see the first team O. I hope we keep him on the team for the year because he has the immeasurables that Brady & many other greats possess, like poise, leadership, tenacity... Someone said that he wasn't that good under the center, which is partially true, he was just better in shotgun, which Linehan incorperates from time to time.

Nobody is saying " Let Sage have a chance at the first team"

That's because we saw him last year vs the Ratbirds. Less than 50% completion was unimpressive. His best throw was the first one of the game to Chambers for an 80 yd TD.

man alot of people here are not to high on brock but i like the kid he has potential i think with good coaching he could be more than good enough.this kid has played against good teams in college has won the big games against floriad st. and the gators and saban loves this kid always has.guess what im trying to say is don't be surprised if brock is the future of the franchise saban has a plan this kid is a born winner and those are the guys saban likes...

Yes, let him have two drives with the first team against the Steelers, if he looks good, give him the start the next week

Berlin seems to be doing fine, makes no difference where he was drafted or not, I like his fire when he is in there.

It's preseason. Our biggest problem on the offense ( Skill player Wise) is once again QB and has been since Marino's retirement in 2000. It looks like we beat in the Feeley deal, and most of us are satisified with what Frerrote has shown us the past few weeks.

Nobody on this board was excited about brining in Brock Berlin. IM sure nobody on the Pats board was excited when they drafted Tom Brady in the 6th round a few years ago either. Am I saying Berlin is Brady? Of course NOT! Am I saying there is a chance that teams find good players late in the draft or after its over? Sure, look at Ogun. Undrafted FA.

We all agree on this. Brock has looked sharp during the limited time he has had to play. Better than anyone on this board thought he would look and his POISE has been great for a Rookie.

Why not let him play a few series with the first team O and VS some real talent out there? I can't help to think this has crossed Saban's mind also. What if he turns out to be the best option? Or at least shows enough promise that he can and wants to take the top spot one day, unlike this clip board holder SAGE, who only wants to play during preseason. Anyone remember Rosenwhored vs the Packers a few years back? HORRIBLE!

Yeah, we saw him with the first team UM teams and he stunk...

Brock is arguably in the hunt for the no. 3 position. At the end of the day, though, I think AJ can do more than Sage or Brock. Remember, Sage and Brock have been playing against third-team defenses; that's why they look good. So it'll probably be Gus #1, AJ #2 and Sage #3. Brock probably won't make it, as much as I'd like him to; he certainly has the heart (can he play on special teams?)

If that's the case, why cut into Gus's and AJ's reps with the first team?

By the way, I'm not a Canes homer. I went to Rutgers. We only invented the game; we can't play it to save our lives.

if the preseason games are meaning less, why not let him play against some decent players, as it seems, u think anyone he's play against sucks.

Why can't you guys understand that pre-season is not meaningless, especially with a new coaching staff, offensive scheme and players. This is invaluable time for our first team to play together against real competition and develop as a team. It is not a time to all of a sudden start evaluating the 3rd and 4th string qbs. That work was already done in scouting the draft and in camp. Time to go with what you've got and get the best out of them.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but yes, I am starting to be a bit intrigued with what he may be able to do with the 1st team. There are been many QBs that came from obscurity to be good QBs, and it isn't like Berlin has always been a nobody, at one point he was one of the most recruited QBs in the nation.

What if he is one of those players that does better at the pros level, then he did in college.

sage played against 2nd string d like feely did last game and scored. feeley played 4th right? so that means he played 3rd stringers just like berlin

I remember seeing Trent Green in his first couple of years in preseason action for the Redskins (once against the Fins). He was a third stringer at the time. I thought he looked horrible (I could only catc the Skins up here) and it never crossed my mind that he had a future NFL career...and I guess that they did too because they didn't make a very strong effort to keep him. Well, look at how he turned out. This is why I say that people shouldn't Sage or Berlin so quickly. Even if they dont play that well with a first or second team, the important thing is that they need to show that they are improving and can learn from their mistakes. After this weekend, if AJ doesn't show any improvement (ie, that he is learning from his mistakes), I think that both of those guys would deserve more playing time, even with a first or second team.

did you even read what he wrote? it goes both ways. the coaches have time to evaluate people in practice, so they can use the games to develop team chemistry...
