Why did he resign with Miami with no chance to start when he could have competed for a job elsewhere. His agent got feelers and new there were no jobs ready to be handed to him outside of trying to compete for a spot. if we are talking it factor why is Moore even being discussed unless it factor involves being a journeyman qb.
You really pulling stuff out of .....
He didn't just resign with Miami. He made Miami pay $8Million over two years. It included a signing bonus of 3Million. Of the total of 8 Million $7Million were guaranteed. You don't do that with a two-bit, crappy backup. They literally made him untradeable - for a reason.
He was the insurance policy in case Tannehill gets hurt. Little did they know at that time that Tannehill would regress in year 3.
Your fear is only that Moore actually could look good or better than Tannehill.
Until the beginning of this season I was on the fence with Tannehill. I really wanted to give him this 3rd year. But the unforeseen happened. Everything on offense got better and he regressed. He is getting worse.
To be honest as a season ticket holder I am not the babysitter of the Miami Dolphins QBs. I had to watch Sparano hanging onto Henne too long for no good reason. Now I want something for my money. If Moore is better short term I want him playing. Tannehill is an adult and a millionaire. He can handle a benching.
This is a hardcore business with lots of money involved. I am not watching pee-wee football where you have too coddle a bunch of 7 year old. If any of us would do a job like he does we'd be fired. This constant excuse making from some fans and the coaching staff makes me sick to my stomach. I am certainly not willing to tank any season anymore just on a fluff of hope that he could be the one.
Do you even know what a journeyman QB is? Matt Moore was with two teams which hardly qualifies as a journeyman QB. Both times he was in bad position being stuck behind 'young and hopeful' QBs. (Just for the record I don't count his stint with the Cowboys).
In 2007 he was stuck behind DelHomme and David Carr, both where once considered franchise QBs by their respective teams (DelHomme, Panthers and Carr, Houston).
He still got some playing time and was voted Offensive rookie of the Month in December 07.
In 2008 he was injured.
In 2009 he started out behind DelHomme again. How well that worked for the Panthers? They finally released DelHomme the following year.
In 2010 he was finally declared the starter though the Panthers wanted their 'franchise QB' Clausen to start. It was probably the toughest year for Moore when he suffered a concussion early on.
2011: stuck behind Henne
2012: new coaches trying to get rid of old QBs and release Henne, draft their own QB and trying to get rid of Moore by getting Garrard.
After Garrard was injured and released they gave Tannehill the job. But they must have seen something with Moore because just a year later they not just resigned him. They increased his pay and guaranteed almost all of it. Moore makes more money then some of the starters in this league. The Dolphins never made Moore available to any other team.
Moore is a QB who was in bad spots. Always on teams who thought they had their franchise QBs. And where are they now? DelHomme retired after a short career. Clausen a backup in Chicago. Henne, if not for the Jaguars, he'd be a backup too somewhere. Tannehill? Looks like a backup right now too.
The fact that no coach ever felt to give Moore a fair chance just because they were occupied dreaming the wet dream that they found their franchise QB you can not fault Moore for that.
There is a long history of QBs who never had their fair chance and eventually got their shot and made the best of it. Some of these QBs will enter the HoF, some just won Superbowls, some had good careers. I think the most famous one who came from absolute no-where after being dissed and shunned in the NFL is Kurt Warner and he only got his chance through a freak accident. If Trent Green would have not gotten injured in the preseason nobody would know the name Warner today. I am not saying that Moore is another Kurt Warner or even a Drew Brees (who also needed a second chance) but he is closer to both of them as a QB as Tannehill is as a starter much less a franchise QB.
Moore has passed its expiration day of a franchise QB. But he is a good alternative for a couple of years who, with this team, could go to the playoffs this year. There is no harm in starting Moore and develop a young kid behind him.
There is no book written on Moore. And if there is one for the Dolphins the only thing in that book would be:
-in 2011 after a couple adjustment games in a new offense with a new team he finished with a 6-3 record.
-in 2012 after Tannehill left the game early he took it to the Jets in their stadium.
-great teammate and respected by his peers
-great support for a young QB
And to be honest: anybody still unquestionably supporting Tannehill and making excuse after excuse can not have good QB evaluation skills in the first place.
