Here are some scenarios that should make some of you think and may ultimately cause some of you to tweak your view of bringing Fiedler back for another year or two. Now, I'm not saying that I want Fiedler back or that I believe he'll be back (although I wouldn't have a hissy fit as some in here would be inclined to do) I'm simply laying out the likely choices this franchise will have to make. Here they are:
1) Miami ditches Fiedler this offseason (a lot of you are smiling already  ) and Griese is tossed with him. We'll assume, for the sake of this scenario, that Sage works his way up to #2 and someone else- a no name likely- is brought in as the #3. In this scenario, Brunell is signed as a FA and is brought in to be the QB of the 'Fins with the understanding that they WILL NOT draft a QB early (this is one of the things he has adamantly stated he wants no part of.) Brunell, in essence, becomes our QB of the future (at least the foreseeable future.)
Here you get no Rivers, no Losman, and no Henson but you get Brunell and you get yet another "we must win now because out window of opportunity is closing...blah, blah, blah" season but NO QB OF THE FUTURE.
2) In this scenario (the one I'm sure is going to be super popular ) Fiedler is retained as the pro forma starting QB while Miami either trades for the rights to Henson or drafts Rivers or Losman (for the sake of this scenario, let's assume that it's whichever rookie QB of the three you prefer.) The rookie would likely not see the field next season as the "win now" mentality would still apply but we would have our QB of future (hopefully) and he would learn behind a guy that's a bit short on talent but very big in the all important "intangible" aspect of the game (i.e. heart, leadership, determination, etc.)
Here you get no new veteran QB but you do get a potentially great future QB upon whom the franchise can place their hopes for years to come.
3) This scenario simply IS NOT going to happen but this is fantasy land and I'm curious to see how many of you feel the team should go this route.
Here the team ditches Fiedler and Griese and DOES NOT go after Brunell. A rookie is picked up (take your pick of the three already mentioned) and he is given the reigns as the starting QB. In this scenario the team also ditches a few aging/high priced veterans on defense and enters rebuilding mode to some extent.
In this final scenario the team should not be expected to win now as it is building for the future with young talent.
These are essentially the options that this franchise will have to face during this offseason. Brunell has stated he believes he can be the man for another 5 to 6 years for whatever franchise he goes to and, therefore, does not want to go to a team that is going to use a high draft pick on a QB. This means that if Miami is planning on drafting a QB it is NOT planning on going after Brunell and visa versa. Any thoughts to the contrary would be counterproductive as bringing in Brunell AND drafting a QB would cause all kinds of problems since Brunell would have to have been lied to in order for him to come on board.
Think about these for a minute and discuss amongst yourselves.
