Who's to Blame For the QB Controversy?

Of course it is, but being short with a reporter who was obviously baiting him for a controversial sound bite is not part of managing a team or personnel. You must not have been around for Jimmy Johnson or Nick Saban press conferences. Those were icy. If you are looking for media manger then maybe golf or tennis is what you should be watching.

He was asked if the team had considered making a switch at QB and he refused to answer. He was then asked about six more times if he could clarify that, and he refused to answer. The next day, after it was a lead story in the national football press, he still refused to answer. And he STILL won't actually say it, even after he had to address the team and apologize to them, and was approached about it by the QB and had to talk it out with him.

How is that being short with a reporter? That's... either a concerted effort to play mind games with his team, or it's just the stunning ineptitude of a guy who is in over his head.

I'm still praying that it's the former because I think this team has enough talent to make the playoffs, but damn if I don't think it's the latter.

Here's a pie chart representation reflecting my opinion. Hope it helps. :idk:

All Joe Philbin had to say was "Ryan Tannehill is currently our starting quarterback. If we feel that we need to make a change, we will make that change and you will be informed of it." That's all he had to say. So easy. There would be NO controversy if he said that. None.

Self-inflicted wound. Horrible. Regardless of whether or not the media blew it out of proportion, the fact that the players themselves said it was a distraction and were obviously not thrilled to be answering questions about it, means that it can't simply be dismissed as media noise. Look at the Jets, man. Geno Smith is playing like pure dog****, and they don't have a QB controversy because when they asked Rex Ryan about it, he practically jumped in front of a machine gun nest for Geno.

And I freaking hate Rex Ryan! I think he's a buffoon! Yet he's less of a buffoon than Joe Philbin.

You want to know why the Dolphins keep shooting themselves in the foot on the field? Missed assignments, dropped footballs, guys falling down on the field, defensive players missing assignments and tackles? Well, look no further than your head coach who literally can't even answer a simple question in a press conference without turning it into a fiasco! The press gave him at least a half-dozen opportunities to put the fire out before it caught and this dumbass still managed to make it a big deal!

I feel like I'm channeling flynryan here.

I think even if he said that the media would have said he has no confidence in the QB. If you put any qualifiers on it... the media will pounce, He's our QB as of right now, this week, next week, until we feel that we need to make a change etc... all would leave room for the media to pounce. The ONLY thing he could have said was He's our starting QB. And when the followup questions came (because you know they would) Sooo what if he has another bad game against oakland coach? Will he still be the starter? What more do you need to see or not see to make a change coach? etc.. It would not end.

The difference between him and Rex Ryan is that Rex just got an extension and will not be fired no matter what Geno does, so he can throw himself in front of the bullets without fear of being let go. Ole Philbin boy does not have that luxury. If he attaches himself to tannehill and this team goes 5-11 he'll be fired. The media knows that and will continue to press him for answers as long as Ryan is playing poorly.

He was asked if the team had considered making a switch at QB and he refused to answer. He was then asked about six more times if he could clarify that, and he refused to answer.

Exactly, and this all should have ended right there. Anything after that was just perpetuated by people susceptible to sensationalist tabloid media.

A. Joe Philbin
B. Ryan Tannehill
C. Media
D. All of he Above

I say B, Ryan Tannehill because if his play was better the media wouldn't be asking Philbin the question and Philbin wouldn't have to give some non-committal answer. No one is asking Denver's Coach if Peyton is starting. No one is asking Harbaugh If Flacco is starting et..... So Ryan... if you wish your coach had handled the situation better.... how about you handle your the situation on the filed better and maybe there's no situation for your coach to handle.
You forgot one, our receivers. Way too many drops for them to not be in the blame game.

But I'd say RT17 because he should have played better against the Bills.

If the player and the team played better the media never would have asked the question of Philbin and then Philbin never would have inserted his foot into his mouth.
