Who's to Blame For the QB Controversy?

The controversy is the fact that the media is asking the questions and the coach isn't saying that the current QB will definitely be the starter on Sunday. Whether there is question internally or not, if the world thinks there is..... then there is until either the coach coach says there isn't or the QB plays at a level where the world can see there isn't. Until then... philbin will get asked that question EVERY WEEK until seasons end.

That's what I am saying....that nobody thought there was a controversy. Everyone knew that Tannehill was the starter. Even moments after Philbin spoke, our OC was asked the same question and said Tannehill was the starter. Was there really any question as to who our starter was? No, but it makes for nice headlines I guess. It give reporters something to write about. It gives fans something to bitch about. It gives websites a few more clicks. Buts that's it really. And honestly, I dont think this affects the players one bit going into the game Sunday.

**** the media.

Here's what I think happened (sarcasm)

Joe "Ryan, can you see me in my office"

Ryan "Ok, be right there"

Joe "Ryan, as you know, you the fans and media are on me about your play lately and some people want me to make a QB change. Let me be clear - you're my guy and you are starting but I need you to do me a favor"

Ryan "Sure coach, what's that"?

Joe "Because I'm a spineless wimp and I need to improve people's view of me as a leader, I'm going to pretend to show a slight lack of confidence in you by not answering the starting QB question. In fact, do you think you can answer it for me?"

E. None of the Above

There was never a QB controversy. It also can't be "C". Blaming the media is like criticizing the dung beetle for playing with ****.

Not a good summation, I'll show you why...

Let's say you are the Head Coach & I am the reporter & we are in a press conference...

You begin the press conference by asking if there are any questions...

I ask. 'Is it true that you have pink dancing shoes and like to dance in the rain'

You answer 'No, of course not.

Next day the headlines are - Coach X says 'He does not have pink shoes and doesn't dance in the rain'....

The whole situation with the media is beyond absurd

Another trolling agenda-driven attempted droolfest started by an agendist... who didn't like the answer he/she expected to get. Go figure :idk:

What Agenda? I don't have an Agenda. I actually think Tannehill should start the rest of the season so that we will know whether or not we should be looking for another QB in the offseason. But what i don't like is the fact that our starting QB is blaming our HC for creating this issue when the real fact of the matter is that if he plays better this all goes away, or would never have come up.

Well you started a thread with the premise of eliciting personal opinions. And you may collect a consensus of those opinions but really as "opinions" they're all subjectively formed.

So with a supposedly objective question being asked and answered, if you weren't pandering for confirmation of what's obviously your own opinion, why take me or anyone else to task for thinking differently? And why should I think this thread is not yet the 50th OP made to troll for a specific Tannehill reaction - especially considering the vehement insults with which you respond to disagreement? :idk:

Now wait a second. Wasn't there a meeting to discuss the possible benching of Tannehill or was that hogwash too. It was reported by many of the beat writes. Did the media need to know about it, absolutely not but it sounds like there really is a QB controversy here.

Joe f-ed up, no matter how you slice it. Whether you agree Tannehill needed a fire under his bum or not (and I think he does) this entire situation could have been avoided.
He should have said something like "I'm going to talk with my QB's this week and we'll make a decision behind closed doors who's going to play" -- At least by saying that, you're showing you're Doing something productive with your players, not leaving them twisting in the wind by remaining silent.

It's a discussion board. The idea is to debate no? It would be quite boring if there was not debate. Sheesh. I think the blame on Tannehill, you can think it's on the coaches. We can both debate our points. Doesn't mean I'm a Troll or Tannehill hater just means I'm bored at work and want to discuss my beloved dolphins. You gave your answer and I asked you a question to back your answer. You said it's on Joe, I asked you, does Tannehill get no blame? You could have said no in your opinion it's all on Joe, or you could have said in your opinion, tannehill gets some blame but it's more so on Joe. Don't have to say I'm a troll because I questioned your answer.

But even him saying that.... the media would have spun it to mean that he doesn't have confidence in his QB. It's like the Nick Saban situation. They asked him about Alabama several times until he had to say something. in which he chose to say he's "Not going to be the Alabama Coach" in which turned out to be a lie. If he had said "Yes I'm considering going to coach Alabama) then that would have been headlines and would have been a distraction. All I'm saying is that it's almost better for coaches to say nothing ala Bill B because no matter what you say or don't say, it will be blown up if the topic is your starting QB starting or not.

Actually when Tannehill is looking crappy, but is out there trying and readily accepting responsibility and accountability in his pressers, he didn't need to be thrown under the bus by a clueless HC without even the OC knowing about it and undermining the confidence in the QB with his teammates. (not to mention losing the lockerroom by not having his back). So no it's not on Tannehill at all. It's mostly on Philbin who could have answered that question a bunch of different ways even lying by saying "he's our QB until otherwise advised" with that "otherwise" being explained in the Sunday presser through a bad Friday practice or some other BS. I mean as far as Fins HC lies go, compared to "I'm not going to Alabama" this one would be miniscule. The media are opportunistic jackals who feasted on Philbin's **** up so they share some of the responsibility. There, asked and answered.

All Joe Philbin had to say was "Ryan Tannehill is currently our starting quarterback. If we feel that we need to make a change, we will make that change and you will be informed of it." That's all he had to say. So easy. There would be NO controversy if he said that. None.

Self-inflicted wound. Horrible. Regardless of whether or not the media blew it out of proportion, the fact that the players themselves said it was a distraction and were obviously not thrilled to be answering questions about it, means that it can't simply be dismissed as media noise. Look at the Jets, man. Geno Smith is playing like pure dog****, and they don't have a QB controversy because when they asked Rex Ryan about it, he practically jumped in front of a machine gun nest for Geno.

And I freaking hate Rex Ryan! I think he's a buffoon! Yet he's less of a buffoon than Joe Philbin.

You want to know why the Dolphins keep shooting themselves in the foot on the field? Missed assignments, dropped footballs, guys falling down on the field, defensive players missing assignments and tackles? Well, look no further than your head coach who literally can't even answer a simple question in a press conference without turning it into a fiasco! The press gave him at least a half-dozen opportunities to put the fire out before it caught and this dumbass still managed to make it a big deal!

I feel like I'm channeling flynryan here.

A. Joe Philbin
B. Ryan Tannehill
C. Media
D. All of he Above

I say B, Ryan Tannehill because if his play was better the media wouldn't be asking Philbin the question and Philbin wouldn't have to give some non-committal answer. No one is asking Denver's Coach if Peyton is starting. No one is asking Harbaugh If Flacco is starting et..... So Ryan... if you wish your coach had handled the situation better.... how about you handle your the situation on the filed better and maybe there's no situation for your coach to handle.
