Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

Bob Griese was born and raised near our home town in southern Indiana. Dad followed his career, which led to the 67 draft and being picked by the Dolphins. Well Dad was my hero, so another dolphins fan was born. Also a long time Reds, Celts (Larry Bird southern Indiana too) and Indiana University fan.

Colts came a calling in 1984 when they relocated to Indiana, but never flinched, stayed true to my first team from 69 at age 5.

So I have stayed with them because partly I am Old School and mostly because Dad always taught me to be loyal

And Now Bob lives between Newland and Boone North Carolina , one of my best friends mom works at his House , Cleaning his House ,She had been there for around 15 years and the car she drove was going down hill fast and her Husband passed away around the same time , so the next week after the funeral of her husband , she went back to work Bob told her to come into the room he was in and threw her a set of keys , she ask whats going on ?he said this is yours and he gave her a new car .That was awesome story at the time .

I am a third generation Dolphins fan and grew up attending games at the Orange Bowl. It is in my blood regardless of where I go. I have watched games and cheered everywhere from Alaska to Jamaica to Holland. Location had nothing to do with it.

Blame my father..
Being an out of town fan is nice though.. It makes it that much more of a deal when you meet a fellow fan

I'm a local and gonna stick with all Miami teams for life, even the Marlins. However, there are many Out of Town fans who have stuck with the Phins through many years of disappointment, when It would be so easy to change to a different team.

Why?

I grew up in military family and lived all over the world growing up...Colorado, Kansas, Italy, Hawaii, Germany, Belgium and Panama. So I have pretty much always been an out of town fan. My dad is from Philly so I root for the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers. Good thing I didn't become an Eagles' fan or I would have hung myself from the garage. :chuckle:

I was living in Italy as kid when the Dolphins were winning. I loved the Flipper in the tank in the end zone and the aqua color. Been with them for 40 years...Phins for life. I love the Phins way more than any other team.

I ask myself that from time to time. I live 20 minutes from the patriots stadium. But it's in my blood, love the fins ever since I saw Marino play when I was 11.These tough years will make it all the sweeter when we win the Super Bowl!

Born an raised in SoCal. Father went to college at Florida university but became a dolphins fan. When he moved to Cali he passed it on to me. I support the chargers because I know a few players, but i am a die hard dolphin fan from the heart.

I was reading all these interesting stories thinking it's great to have so many out of town fans when it hit me that I was one now as well. Born and raised rooting for all the Miami teams and the fact i'm now living in Georgia makes absolutely no difference. Guess it's my fathers fault taking me to see flipper jump as a small child :idk:

Born and raised in toronto, but I love my fins more than the leafs and blue jays!!!. My parents and I vacationed in Florida all time growing up, and of course Marino was the most popular sports figure in Florida back then that's why I love the dolphins. Why do I stay a fan???? That's because I'm a true fan. Yes the product hasn't been Super Bowl Calibur in forever, but it dosent matter I love this team to the core. Glory or heartbreak a fan for life

To be honest, when I was little I chose teams based on their logos. So the Pro Bowl was my favorite game because I got to see all the cool helmets on the field at once. I used to like a lot of teams. From the Seahawks to the Bengals to the Lions to the Dolphins. One team I didn't like was Denver. I hated that old letter D logo with the bronco inside it. The ironic thing of that is I like their throwbacks now.

Not sure how I ended up settling on the Dolphins I just did. I know the logo did play a big part in it. Partly because no one else came close to our color scheme. I didn't really start to understand the game until high school. That was when we had the good defense with Taylor, Thomas, Surtain and Madison and others. That was when I really settled on the Dolphins as my team. Been with them ever since.

I think your in town option has a lot to do with it as well.
The 49ers were huge when i was a kid.. Made me want to like someone different.

Grew up watching the Marino/ Kelly battles and my dad was a bills fan. So in order to piss off the old man I started rooting for Dan and been a loyal fan ever since. I'm the kinda guy that gets chest pains watching the fins.I am a dolphin fan all the way to the bone .if we lost every game for 5 years in a row I would be in front of my tv year 6 saying this is our year.

Found these highlights from that game: http://youtu.be/vzoGpbI0bG4

Crazy to think there were that many people in the stands for a professional soccer match back then...

I hope the MLS can grow to become a popular league in the US. Looking forward to the Miami expansion team.

That wasn't the game I was referring to, but it was nice watching the replay.
The game i was talking about happened at Lockhart Stadium (right off of Commercial Blvd) next to the executive airport.
As I remember, the game ended 0-0, but the Strikers lost in the shoot out.
Can't seem to find a link for that one. It was probably in the late 70's as well.
I played in the Strikers pep band, sponsored by Coral ridge properties.

Because the Fins have been my team since I was 9 years old (because of Marino) and that will never change. I've been through everything with this franchise, and I'll bleed aqua and orange til I die.

I have been a Dolphins fan since about 1977 so I am here through thick and thin. I may get ticked off at them and driven to insanity but I won't leave the team.
