Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

I'm a local and gonna stick with all Miami teams for life, even the Marlins. However, there are many Out of Town fans who have stuck with the Phins through many years of disappointment, when It would be so easy to change to a different team.

Why?

Changing teams has never even crossed my mind. Sure it'd be nice to like the Redskins even though they haven't done anything in 20 years. At least I could wallow in my sorrow with most of my friends who like them. The two Dolphins tattoos I have not withstanding, there's no chance I'd ever root for another team. If the Dolphins moved from Miami and became the Igloos of Arkansas or something then I might consider it but since that isn't happening, there's no shot of me jumping ship.

I'm loyal. They haven't won in 40 years. At this point it's all numb to me especially when I've seen 5 Spurs titles in 16 years. The Dolphins will never be able to top what the Spurs have done (for me too). But I'm loyal.

I am in Oklahoma City now, but grew up in Tampa.... became a Dolphin Fan when they were the only pro sports team in Florida....late '60's.

although I get upset from time to time,.....they will always be my favorite team....

Ever since I saw the first time Marino play against Cleveland I was born to be a Dolphins fan. Cleveland will always be my hometown team but Dolphins all the way.

Marshville, nc here....home of randy travis! ive been a fins fan since the 84 super bowl. remember joe and dan at the soda machine. been a die hard fins fan ever since. even get to hear the smart ass locals (im about 30 minutes from BofA in charlotte) question me as why im a fins fan even though we have the panthers locally. ummm well the fins were around a long time before the panthers. spry zipcod doesn't equal loyalty...........GO FINS!

I don't think fanhood has as much to do with current physical location than a personal relationship, experience, or memory.

Exactly. The Dolphins were the first team I saw play. It was pre-Super Bowl and I think they even lost the game. But I was about 3 years old, liked the color, liked dolphins and then the team became more visible because it was so good over the next few years, so I got more and more into them. Once you have a team, I mean really have a team, they're yours. You don't bail on them, even if you don't always agree with things you do or they drive you nuts. They are like old friends.

For the record, I am in central Pennsylvania. Have always lived here.

When I was a kid I didnt want to root for the team my mother rooted for which was the Giants. I wanted my own team,u know kid type ****.Was always a big fan of Dan Marino n I always wanted him to win it all because Marino was nice with it plus I hated the jets bcuz they always sucked but their fans always talked **** like theywere good. So I just decided to roll with Dan n the fins since. I couldve easily have been a Giants fan but Ny has a thing against people from Jersey so I said **** yall to!! Im a Dolphins fan!

I don't know why they are still fans but they sure are very opinionated when it comes to telling the local fans how they should support the team.

Cause once you pick a team you never leave them, otherwise your a ban wagoner, and to me that's the lowest you can be as a sports fan.

St.Pete Dolphins fan forever.

As far as I can remember I became a phins fan for superficial reasons; like probably the colors and logo (hey I was like 7 or 8). But soon I learned about Marino and the Marks bros, and soon enough the phins became far and away my favorite sports team and I've never even thought about switching to another. I don't even have a second favorite team. I actually run into a surprising number of phins fans here in upstate NY, including a few co-workers.

Glad to know I was the only one that chose the team based on colors and logo.

I started out being an "out of towner".. grew up in NY hated the jets not a bills or giant fan...picked the Dolphins as "My" team back in 1966 when it all started.. Now I live in NC and I have remained a Dolphins fan ... will follow them no matter where I end up...

From Seattle but no Po-football in late 60's. So was a Baltimore Colts/Don Shula fan.
When he went to MIA in 1970, I followed. Loved his no nonsense style. Been a good
ride, but have been able to see a lot of cool games on the road, and in MIA and have met some
very passion filled fans in Kansas city, Atlanta, Tennessee, Dallas, AND Washington DC.

To coin a phrase used by Harley Davidson riders...... "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".

So you would change teams, if you had to move to another state?

qft. I used to live with a kid who was a Philly fan and a cowboys fan and a 9ers fan and a bucs fan.

He went to ucf but said he was a Rutgers fan and then he worked at usf so now he's a usf fan.

i told him repeatedly he sucked as a fan. I said you live and die with 1 team.

Do u know how hard it is to be a fins fan and a ucf fan???
