Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

I have never waverd on any of my professional teams. Im down with the Reds,Dolphins Celtics and Bruins.
I used to be a New York Cosmos fan before the NASL went belly up. I wish it was as simple as chosing another team sometimes but it isn't.
Im from Tampa but hate the Bucs, pull for Rays as long as Reds are not playing them same with Lightning

I was a Ft lauderdale Strikers fan back in the day. I was at that epic playoff game at Lockhart Stadium in what 1980? The Strikers lost, but both of those teams were loaded with legend players.
Pele, Arnie Mauser, George Best, Nene Cubilous, Beckenbaurer, so many names I have forgotten.
Shoot outs are really exciting but a terrible way to decide a long and hard fought game.

Those striped Strikers jerseys were really cool.

I spent most of my childhood overseas (Italy and Greece) when i got back to the States i happened to stumble upon a Dan Marino laser/rocket arm pass to a team called the Dolphins (i also love the animal) and was then baptized for life in Miami trickle down effect (Canes, Heat, Hurricanes.......became a Yanks fan through family and friends and it greatly pissed off people which also was an attraction to me....i like my character flaws ok? lol)

I would think so, especially in Colorado.

While I'm not a native, Colorado is my home as well. I don't dislike the Broncos or their fans. Well, some of their fans can be a little obnoxious & uninformed but that can probably be said about the fan base of any team. I've never been tempted to change my colors...

I'm 25 and from South Tampa. Back when I was a little kid. there were the full child's play uniforms with the helmet and the jersey and pants. When my mom took me to Toys R Us they were out of Bucs ones, so my Mom got me a Dolphins one instead (Marino)
And I've been a fan ever since. I've always wondered who the bucs would even have on their jersey. I think it was past the Vinnie days. Eric Rhett? Horace Copeland? Lol

I'm a local and gonna stick with all Miami teams for life, even the Marlins. However, there are many Out of Town fans who have stuck with the Phins through many years of disappointment, when It would be so easy to change to a different team.

Why?

The answer to your question has alot of diffrent answers ,for example , Take Fans like me we have been a dolphin fan since the Marino days , and still are no matter what then there are other fans that just like the logo and the colors of diffrent teams then you have fans , that like certain players either on Defence or Offence , or they may have seen a player makin a Big play and started rooting for them , But fans dont have to be from the State of Florida to be a fan of that Team , ive been to Florida and like it , but there are diffrent Reasons and answers to your Question .

25 myself, living in Boise Idaho grew up watching marino, furthest possible city from here, but I always see a TON of fin fans up here for whatever reason

Yes, and that is why this thread has been so much fun to read, as it answers the questions, with some VG stories.

Hard to figure why in Idaho, of all places.

I'm 38 and from Mobile, Alabama, I've been a Phins fan since 84, I saw Marino play in the Super Bowl against the Niners, I've been a Dolphins fan since, and it's never gonna change. Every year when Marino was QB, I would say the Dolphins were going to the Super Bowl, Marino gave you that hope.

Found these highlights from that game: http://youtu.be/vzoGpbI0bG4

Crazy to think there were that many people in the stands for a professional soccer match back then...

I hope the MLS can grow to become a popular league in the US. Looking forward to the Miami expansion team.

I grew up in Las Vegas - a pretty good sports town - which ironically had no home team to latch on to. Everyone liked different teams whether they were born into a certain fandom or just merely stumbled into it. I definitely stumbled into being a Dolphin fan. My parents were from Western NY but weren't football people. Dad did like the Dodgers quite a bit so for a time in my very early years I remember hearing Vin Scully a lot, seeing the 1988 WS win (Kirk Gibson). I was (and am) a huge UNLV basketball fan and was lucky enough to witness the National Championship team as thuggish as they were.

As for the Dolphins I just have no answer. It's almost like the team picked me. I remember using them a lot in the original Tecmo Bowl. I remember digging those colors, that Marino guy and the Marks bros.... Once mom got me Marino jersey for my bday and I met a good group of friends in junior high school that loved the NFL I went nuts. By the middle of highschool everyone knew me as the Dolphin fan. It's been an interesting journey over the years. I wouldn't take any of it back...Superbowl or not.

Been a fan for over 40 years, since I knew what a football was. If it ain't broke, don't fix.... wait, no that's not it :idk:
