Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

I'm a local and gonna stick with all Miami teams for life, even the Marlins. However, there are many Out of Town fans who have stuck with the Phins through many years of disappointment, when It would be so easy to change to a different team.

Why?

Loved this team from the moment I watch my 1st game (win against the Jets many many many years ago by the way) to the moment I die. Can't ever think about rooting for another team.

I became a fan when I lived in south Florida. Went to a few games as a kid. Now I go whenever they come out to Denver. But I'm strongly considering not going this year.

I was at that Bills game baking in Sun Life last season. I said, this is the last game I attend until they prove to be worth it.

I live in Minnesota, and the main reason I started rooting for an out of town team was because I can't stand the Vikings-Packers rivalry. So much idiocy from both fanbases.

I don't know why I still root for the Dolphins, but I do. I think I've just put in so much time and energy by now that I can't go back.

I started liking the Dolphins in the first grade. Probably liked the colors or logo or something. Have been a die hard fan ever since. Living in Central, PA I'm envious of Philly fans. But I will go to my grave a Fins fan. I already told my fiancé to bury me in my Marino Authentic.

Disagree. Locals have it much easier with family, friends, and co-workers being fans, going to games, more media coverage, events, and meeting new fans consistently. Out of Towners don't have all that which makes things more difficult. No?

Disagree with what? Your 'rebuttal' has nothing to do with anything I said. While I do agree with your thoughts that being a local fan is easier based on the likely hood that people in your community are probably also fans of the local team, I just don't understand why it was brought up to begin with.

When I 'picked' my teams, I didnt do so based on location or whatever, I was a middleschool kid who wanted to go my own direction. I live in DFW and was not interested in being a cowboys fan and was especially not interested in being a Mavericks fan (they were much worse back before Dirk was drafted).

I didnt read all of the responses so i apologize if this has been said already....

Winning feels so much better when you have had to deal with losing for so damn long. We have to be due for some better years ahead and dang are those years going to feel good after where we have been.

Up in CT and have been a die hard fan since the days of Marino. When I was younger I would adopt a team by following a player and then slowly learning about the rest of the team.

Dolphins can go 0-16 for 10 years and I will still follow them. For me once I adopt a team it is for life and location has never been a huge factor for me granted I refuse to cheer for any Boston/New York team.

Got my fandom from my Dad, who was a Flordia native when he was younger before moving around. I've been a Fins fan for my whole life but only seriously the last 7-8 years. Essentially all I've ever experienced as a Fins fan is mediocre football, with the most exciting season in my life being the Wild Cat year. Pretty sad when I think about it but in the end I'm not some fairweather fan. I'll be with the Fins for life and all this losing is going to make that future SB taste soooo sweet.

I'm 25 and from South Tampa. Back when I was a little kid. there were the full child's play uniforms with the helmet and the jersey and pants. When my mom took me to Toys R Us they were out of Bucs ones, so my Mom got me a Dolphins one instead (Marino)
And I've been a fan ever since. I've always wondered who the bucs would even have on their jersey. I think it was past the Vinnie days. Eric Rhett? Horace Copeland? Lol

I used to LOVE the Hutch series uniforms. Man my pals and I would wear our favorite teams uniforms and play football at the local field all day.

I live in Sacramento, CA. I was raised a 49er fan. When I was old enough to start rebelling (8 years old) I decided I did not want to be forced to root for a team (Everyone else in the family are 49er fans) I chose the Dolphins because I loved the way Dan Marino threw passes, that was in 1988, been a fan ever since. It's been rough watching the success of the 9ers, but I am a Fin Fan 4 Life!

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC...but grew up in Orlando long before the Bucs or Jags were around. Always have been a Phin fan and moving out of Florida will not change that.

Fin fan since 82--simple answer would be Dan Marino and Don. i love the game and love the players, but they were special, very special. And just like any sport, once you name your colours to the flag, they stick forever
