Why Are Out Of Towners Still Dolphans?

Been a fan since we moved to Orlando when I was 7 with my mom in 87-88 iirc. My dad was a big 9ers fan and then swapped to the Cowboys (I'm not sure how you can do that) and I hated the Cowboys. Being a military brat and then joining myself, I couldn't see changing teams. Hell I still root for my Magic and the Marlins.

31 years of Dolphins football. No need to go anywhere else. Dolphins till the day I die.
Miami is and will be the only team of importance to me.

I always liked dolphins (the mammal) as a kid and everyone in Oklahoma likes the Cowboys, Chiefs, or Broncos, so I had to be different. I have been a fan for 42 years and a die hard fan for 30+ of those. I will always be a Dolphin!

Because I have loved the mother******* Dolphins since 1970!...End of story...and the only two pro teams in my state are the University of Alabama and Auburn U.

Because I'm loyal and not a bandwagon fan. I'm a 7th generation Floridian and all of the teams I follow were the first team in the state in their respective sport. The only exception being that I root for the Florida Panthers and not the Tampa Bay Lightning. I refuse to root for anything out of Tampa. My family doesn't switch allegiance because something new and shiny comes along. My mothers side of the family is from Miami. I live in Ocala and a ton of Miami natives have moved here over the years.

As a result I'm a Dolphin fan, University of Florida fan, Marlins fan, Heat fan and Panthers fan

I'm a local and gonna stick with all Miami teams for life, even the Marlins. However, there are many Out of Town fans who have stuck with the Phins through many years of disappointment, when It would be so easy to change to a different team.

Why?

I live about as far away from Miami you can in the US, Upper Michigan. 1,741 miles. I will always be a dolphan because to me once you are a fan, you can't change. You have to ride through the highs and lows, which for me has been mainly lows unfortunately. I am a little young to remember the golden danny boy years. I saw him a few times when I was younger, but that was only on primetime. I am surrounded by many Lions fans, so I don't feel nearly as bad. It could be MUCH worse.

I personally could not let myself root for a team other than my hometown team. Whats the joy in being a fan of an out of town team when there is no one to share your excitement with? Not everyone is lucky to be born and raised with a local sports team, but when you are, its a no brainer to root for your home team, even if they suck. I have never lived anywhere other than Miami, so maybe my opinion will change if I have to live in a new city long term and support that team, but nothing compares to your real home town.

Also, I am so used to being a fan of a bad franchise that I can't help but think the time is coming. I have been on this Earth for almost 23 years now, the chances of us getting that good mojo at some point in my life should be pretty high. We can't possibly suck for my entire life time.

I'm giving some serious thought to having some orange t-shirts printed up with this on them:

... Any interest?

Why did you become a Dolphin's fan Bump ?

Grew up in Miami, moved out a week before Hurricane Andrew. Then lived in Ft. Myers till I was 21. I will be a die hard Miami fan till I die. My son who was born in Miami is at least trained to be a Dolphins, Hurricanes, and Heat fan. I let his mom have baseball so he is a SF Giants fan in baseball. I just dont have the conviction to force him to suffer through the Marlins

Can't explain it. I've been a Dolphins fan since about '74 (I liked the show Flipper when I was a kid...probably why I like the Dolphins...can't say for sure). Grew up in the SFBA hating the Raiders and Niners...still do. Through my 22 years
in the Navy, I've had the pleasure of meeting TONS of non-Floridian Dolphans (worst fans IMHO are Eagles/Jets...must be something with the Green/White unis...sorry, off topic).

It must be somewhere in my DNA, because it is iron-clad...no kryptonite exists.

I will tell you why for me....

Dan Marino and Don Shula

Been a Fin fan ever since I could throw a football...

Z. Thomas, Jason Taylor, and Ricky Williams as well.

100%

Why did you become a Dolphin's fan Bump ?

Two words:

Dan. Marino.

I absolutely hated the prick when he was at Pitt because he kept destroying my Mountaineers.

When he turned pro, I decided I was done rooting against him.

There's more to it than that, but that's the main reason.
